Sam Edmonds from Pure Fishing confirms for GAC Open Weekend!
We are pleased to announce that Sam Edmonds, one of the UK's top young Predator and Fly anglers will be joining us for our Open Weekend Event on the 27th, 28th and 29th of September, representing Pure Fishing!
Sam was taught many different ways to catch fish by his Dad, and he enjoys them all - especially lure fishing and flyfishing. Some of his PB's include Pike to 29lb, Perch to 4lb 12oz and Zander to 13lb 12oz. Perch have become a big favourite of Sams and he has been lucky enough to catch 9 over 4lbs. His holidays usually include fishing too and I've caught some exotic fish such as Tarpon, Permit, Bonefish, Roosterfish, Dorado, Amberjacks, Snook and Peacock Bass on lures. His biggest fish on a fly is an 130lb Sailfish caught in Costa Rica. He loves catching fish on lures and flies and has so far caught 72 different species on the fly, 118 on lures and 175 on all tackle.
Sam Edmonds is a consultant at Pure Fishing |
In 2010 he fished in the England Youth National Flyfishing Championship - winning the match and becoming National Champion. Since then he has represented England in the U18 Flyfishing Team twice. The team won Gold at the Youth International on Lough Owel in Ireland in 2012. He is also very interested in photography and writing fishing articles, having had a few articles published by Angling Times, Total Flyfisher and Coarse Angling Today. Last year, he caught a 4lb 4oz Perch from the River Lea on camera for Sky Sports 'Tightlines' with Keith Arthur and has appeared on the programme a few times. He is currently consultant for Pure Fishing's Predator Squad and has recently been chosen to represent England in the first Team England Lure Squad.

Open Weekend Exclusive - Bug-Bond Mains Professional UV Light!
One of the many exciting product launches at this years Glasgow Angling Centre September Open Weekend is the new mains powered UV light source from Bug-Bond! One of the biggest complaints we hear about Bug-Bond is that is has stopped curing completely, leaving a tacky finish. This problem is almost always caused by poor quality or weak batteries in the torch and we have proved this many times in-store! The new mains powered kit eradicates this problem and will be a godsend to those who use Bug-Bond extensively in their fly-tying!
So what is the new kit? Well it’s more of an upgrade! Bug-Bond where not going to introduce another new light when thousands of GAC customers have already shelled out for the Professional UV Light and are very happy with it! Powered by a single AA battery the Bug-Bond Professional UV Light set a new benchmark in curing UV resins for fly tying, offering great curing performance with long battery life it looked like they had cracked it. However, David was already designing the next phase, to design a light with a continuous source of power that doesn't run out or vary - a mains powered unit. Since the Bug-Bond range didn't need another light the new one was designed as an upgrade that uses the existing Professional Light and gives the end user the best of both worlds - mains power with portability when you need it!
The main component is a remote foot pedal that replaces the the switch on the Professional UV Light. This in turn is powered from the mains electricity via an AC/DC adapter, giving the user the convenience of mains power with a nifty foot operated UV light source (leaving both hands free to manipulate materials etc) as well as the portability demanded by the travelling fly tyer. You could keep the foot operated switch at home for the tying bench and when going to a fly tying club or on a fishing trip, return the light to AA battery operation - another first for light cured resins in fly tying from Bug-Bond who remain at the forefront of the fly tying resin market and have picked up 2 innovation awards over the last two years to prove it!
The new Bug-Bond mains UV curing lamp is available complete or as a retro fit kit for your existing Bug-Bond Professional UV Light from Glasgow Angling Centre now! Click HERE to purchase online or ask in-store if you would like to see one in action! There really is something for everyone at these events, that's why they are the biggest in Scotland and this one will be the biggest ever! There will be loads of thing to see and do on the Open Weekend dates as well as some amazing bargains on fishing tackle. Keep an eye out on Facebook, Twitter and instore for more info on what's going on at this event! Plus don't forget to register for your FREE GIFT on the day! Click HERE for details!

Toni Karuvaara and Patagonia confirm for GAC September Event!
We are excited to announce that Toni Karuvaara from Patagonia will be attending our September Open Weekend Event on the 27th, 28th and 29th! Toni will be joined by Patagonia Sales Manager Steve Fisher and Bill Klyn who is Patagonia's Global Fishing Manager - these guys will be on hand to advise on Patagonia product and answer all your questions!
Toni grew up living next to the River Langinkoski in Finland. He was fascinated with fishing and it soon became his favourite hobby as a young boy. His Grandfather, Oiva, took Him fishing as a 5 year old boy to the River Kymi where they fished with spinning gear, but it was his father who bought him his first fly rod when he was 14 years old - a Kunnan Classic Graphite 10’ #7. He still own's the rod and was hooked on fly fishing from the day his Dad gave him that rod.
Toni went on to work in fishing stores in Helsinki in the early 90´s then started to work for Guideline in Sweden in 2004 thanks to his dear friend and mentor, HÃ¥kan Norling, who helped him get a foot in the door. Working with Guideline gave him the rare opportunity to pursue his dream - a career in fly fishing!
He then worked as an editor for Chasing Silver magazine for 3 years and Toni was recently appointed as Patagonia Fly Fishing Team Leader in Europe. As well as fishing, Toni is also a keen hunter, photographer and writer. He will be on hand at the GAC Open Weekend Event to showcase Patagonia fly fishing clothing, waders and accessories.
Patagonia fishing gear is considered by many to be the best available and with products like the Gallegos wader and SST jackets in the line up it is easy to see why. They are often at the forefront of design and innovation as can be seen with the amazing Aluminium Bar Boots and Krampons and not all of their fishing range is as pricey as you might think, with some items like the Minimalist Wading Jacket competing at a very affordable level with other big value brands in the tackle industry!

Meet Sportquest at the GAC Open Weekend!
Sportquest is a team of dedicated professionals who offer full tour packages to some of the best locations in the world for sea fishing, big game fishing, fly fishing and shooting holidays. The guys from Sportquest will be with us instore for our Open Weekend Event on the 27th, 28th and 29th of September 2013 to show off their destinations and answer any questions you might have about them!
Sporquest have been working very hard to bring you some new destinations in Norway that offer everything for the sea angler. They are used to getting positive feed back about the staff, the fishing and the accommodation on their trips, but one thing that does come up now and again is the fact that none of them offer a full board option. So they have tried very hard to find a camp that has excellent fishing, first class accommodation, top of the range boats, guided fishing and the option to upgrade to a full board package and it is with great pleasure that they can now offer a trip to one of the best places to fish in northern Norway - Vaeroy Islands which is located near the world famous Lofoten Islands!
The seas that surround this island are renowned for big fish, and the world record Halibut came from here back in 2008 at a massive weight of 202kg! Every year there are Coalfish caught up to to 21kg, and it wouldn't be a surprise if this camp broke the World Record very soon for Coalfish. Early in the year, between March and April, you can find very big Cod up to 35kg just a short drive from the camp along with scores of Cod in the 20kg range. Then as the year progresses in to Summer you don't need to go very far from the camp to target trophy Halibut and Plaice at weights that you could only dream of!
The fishing is done from high quality 23.5ft Aluminium Arronet boats equipped with 135hp engines and all of the latest fish finding equipment and GPS systems you could ever want. There is even the opportunity to upgrade your boat to a Bayliner Trophy 25ft with a 300hp Diesel engine if you want something a bit bigger!
The cabins are very high standard with all mod cons to make your stay enjoyable and as easy as possible, or why not take advantage of the onsite hotel where you can book a single or double room and also upgrade to the full board option this includes breakfast, lunch (which they will pack up for you to take out fishing) and evening meal. You also receive a free days guiding where one of our Norwegian fishing guides will jump aboard your boat and show you the ropes for the day, and on your other days fishing you are more than welcome to follow the guide boat to all the hotspots.
So if you fancy a trip to Norway and have been put off by having to cook and wash up this trip is for you and with having the guides on hand 24hrs a day this has to be one of the best camps in North Norway, Vaeory!
If you would like to know more, visit the Sportquest stand at the Glasgow Angling Centre September Event or simply click HERE to view more info on this brand new camp!
