Casting Demos & Tuition – Spring Open Weekend
Join us at our Spring Open Weekend this March for a packed schedule of casting demos and expert tuition. Throughout the weekend, world record holders, SGAIC instructors and AAPGAI masters will be sharing their wealth of knowledge on our casting pool — and they’ll also be available in-store to answer questions and help anglers of all ages and abilities improve their skills.
Listen out for announcements on the day and keep an eye on the casting pool. Demos and tuition will be delivered by: Hywel Morgan, Jim Fearn, Eoin Fairgrieve, Steve Peterson, Stevie Reid, Gordon Armstrong and Jim Curry.
Why casting demos are worth attending
There is no better way to test a new rod or see the latest technology in action than under the guidance of highly qualified instructors. These experts work directly with the brands developing today’s cutting-edge fly rods, reels and lines. You’ll get the chance to cast with their gear, ask questions and get honest advice before making a choice.
What you can do on the casting pool
- Speak directly to experts in the field
- Watch them run through the how, where and why to help you improve your casting
- Find out how to get the best out of your current setup
- Try different rod/reel/line setups before you buy
- Get quick technique fixes that improve distance and accuracy
- Ask about line selection, leaders, turnover and presentation
- Get tailored advice whether you’re starting out or refining advanced casts

If you have an exciting trip coming up, this is your chance to get prepared. Between them, our guest instructors have fished in almost every condition and targeted countless species as guides, competitors and passionate anglers.
Key Takeaways from the Casting Demos
- Distance isn’t everything – clean loops and timing matter more than power.
- Line choice changes everything – the right line can transform your rod.
- Presentation beats power – accuracy and turnover catch more fish.
- Small adjustments = big improvements – often just a grip or stance tweak makes the difference.
- Try before you buy – test different rod and line combinations on the pool.
