Fly Tyers’ Row Returns for the Autumn Open Weekend 2026
Fly Tyers’ Row is back for the Glasgow Angling Centre Autumn Open Weekend, and once again we have a brilliant line-up of fly dressers joining us across all three days of the show.
From traditional Clyde and North Country patterns to modern competition nymphs, river dries, predator flies and classic salmon dressings, there will be a huge range of styles and techniques on display.
The real appeal of Fly Tyers’ Row is being able to get right up beside the vice and watch how experienced tyers work. Ask about a material, see how a particular technique is done or bring along a pattern you've been struggling with. The tyers are there to talk fishing as much as they are to demonstrate.
Experienced fly dressers can pick up new ideas and see some of the latest materials being used, while complete beginners are every bit as welcome. If you've never tied a fly before, this is one of the best places to have a go and get a bit of help with those first few turns of thread.

Partridge of Redditch
One of the most recognisable names in fly tying hooks, Partridge will be represented by Tim Wood, Paul Little and Mark Hamnett.
Tim Wood - Partridge of Redditch
Tim is one of the finest trout fly tyers around and a familiar face at fly fairs, shows and tying clubs across the country. His particular passions include small river flies and grayling nymphs, with years of experience fishing everything from his local waters to Iceland, Sweden and Bosnia.
Anyone interested in river fishing should make time for Tim's bench. His neat, practical patterns and attention to the small details make his demonstrations particularly useful for anglers looking to improve flies they actually intend to fish.

Paul Little - Partridge of Redditch
Paul Little is a long-standing Partridge ambassador and one of the country's most accomplished traditional fly dressers. His journey into fly tying began with flies for pike before developing into trout and salmon fishing and eventually a fascination with classic salmon flies.
Paul has a particular passion for classic patterns, Spey flies, traditional spiders and some of the older dressings that risk being forgotten. He is equally interested in the basic techniques behind good fly construction, making his bench a great place to stop whether you're an experienced dresser or still learning the fundamentals.
Mark Hamnett - Partridge of Redditch
Mark Hamnett heads up Fishing Matters and has been closely involved with the modern development of Partridge of Redditch. Working alongside fly tyers around the world, he has helped develop and refine hooks for everything from traditional trout flies to modern salmon and predator patterns.
If you want to talk hooks, hook design or why choosing the right shape and wire can make such a difference to a finished fly, Mark is exactly the person to ask.

Paul Clydesdale returns to Fly Tyers’ Row representing GULFF and Vision Fly Fishing, bringing a rather different scale of fly to the vice.

Paul started fly fishing at the age of 11 and began tying almost immediately. Since then his fishing has taken him from Scottish trout and salmon waters to Mexico, Hawaii, Christmas Island and the Bahamas.
Predator fly fishing is now a major part of Paul's angling, particularly pike. His bench is always worth visiting if your idea of a fly involves a little more flash, movement and material than the average size 16 dry. Expect plenty of useful ideas on predator patterns, modern materials and how to build large flies that still cast and fish effectively.

The Fly Emporium UK Ltd & Veniard
The Fly Emporium UK Ltd is now the company behind the historic Veniard brand, bringing together almost a century of Veniard fly-tying heritage with a growing international fly-tying business.
Joining them on Fly Tyers’ Row are Ed Ford, John Hood, Alex Rook and Donald Stewart, four tyers with very different approaches to the vice.

Ed has many childhood memories of fishing with friends and family, but it was being introduced to fly fishing by his older brother in 2006 that really changed the direction of his angling.
Fly tying followed soon afterwards and, as a largely self-taught tyer, Ed continues to experiment with materials and techniques. His fishing around the Clyde Estuary also feeds directly into his fly tying, producing practical patterns designed with a very definite purpose in mind.
John Hood - Fly Emporium / Veniard
John is an excellent fly tyer in his own right, but his bench at the Open Weekend has always had another important purpose.
John specialises in helping beginners get started. Over the years, hundreds of youngsters and novice fly tyers have tied some of their very first flies under his guidance. If you or the kids fancy finally having a go at fly tying, make sure you stop by and say hello.

Alex Rook - Fly Emporium / Veniard
Alex is a destination fly fisherman who is always willing to travel for the next challenge. His list of catches includes monster pike, big perch, catfish, striped bass, European sea bass, peacock bass, roosterfish, giant trevally, arapaima and bull redfish.
That variety is reflected at the vice. Alex ties flies intended for some very different species and environments, so his bench is a great place to see how conventional fly-tying principles can be scaled up and adapted for serious predator and destination fishing.

Donald Stewart - Fly Emporium / Veniard
Donald has been tying flies for well over 40 years. His early fishing centred around the Water of Leith in Edinburgh before he discovered the River Clyde at 16, a river he has fished and loved ever since.
Moving west opened the door to the distinctive Clyde Style of fly dressing and Donald learned much of it directly from anglers on the riverbank. If you are interested in sparse traditional river flies, Clyde patterns and the history behind them, Donald's bench should be high on your list.

Fulling Mill bring four very different fly tyers to the Autumn show, covering everything from traditional Scottish loch flies to precision river nymphs and dry flies.
Allan Hutton - Fulling Mill
Airdrie-based Allan Hutton's fly tying began at his local angling club, learning to dress traditional wet flies for Hillend Reservoir and the lochs of the Scottish Highlands.
That introduction developed into a real fascination with the heritage of Scottish fly tying. Allan specialises in Loch-style wets, Clyde Style flies and North Country spiders, while also enjoying the challenge of introducing modern materials and his own subtle variations into established patterns.

Paul Proctor - Fulling Mill
Paul Proctor is one of the UK's best-known river trout anglers, fly designers and writers, with a lifetime of experience pursuing wild trout at home and abroad.
Many anglers will already recognise his name from Fulling Mill patterns such as his olives, emergers, nymphs and dry flies. His tying reflects a very practical understanding of what trout are actually seeing and feeding on, making Paul's demonstrations particularly useful for anyone interested in imitative river patterns and fishing them effectively.

Steven Shorrock - Fulling Mill
Cheshire-based Steven Shorrock was first introduced to fly tying by his grandfather nearly 35 years ago. After spending many years coarse match fishing, he returned to fly fishing and developed a precise tying style with a particular focus on tactical nymphs and dry flies.
Steven spends much of the trout season on rivers including the Wye, Derwent, Dove and Lathkill, before turning his attention to winter grayling. Regular trips to Bosnia's Ribnik and Pliva also give him the chance to test his flies against some seriously demanding fish.
For the Autumn Open Weekend he will be demonstrating some of his favourite trout and grayling nymphs and dry flies, including the sort of patterns featured in our recent Fly Tying Focus series.

Stevie Dallas - Fulling Mill
Stevie's fishing started when he was only eight years old with a handmade rod built by his father. More than three decades later, fishing and fly tying remain a huge part of his life.
Although Stevie has fished across Scotland, England, Wales, Sweden and Colorado, wild river brown trout and grayling are his real passion. He ties his own patterns for everything from trout to pike and brings a practical angler's eye to the vice, producing flies designed to be fished rather than simply admired.

Something for Every Fly Tyer
What makes Fly Tyers’ Row interesting is the sheer variety gathered into one place. At one bench you could be watching a sparse Clyde Style wet fly being dressed, then move a few feet and find a modern tungsten nymph, an immaculate dry fly, a classic salmon pattern or a huge predator fly taking shape.
More importantly, don't be afraid to ask questions. The tyers are there to demonstrate, explain and talk fishing. Whether you're trying to improve the flies already in your box, looking for ideas for the winter tying season or you've never picked up a bobbin before, there will be plenty to learn.
