The Summer Nymph
When learning about fly tying, there are set patterns that fly tyers should know how to tie. Traditional patterns for example, but after traditional flies become easy, it's common to start creating variants, hybrids and sometimes completely new patterns. This pattern is one made from a mistake in materials, which turned out to be just as successful.
The Summer Nymph is a pattern that Steve was shown by a fellow tyer and he mistakenly used the incorrect materials to create it. However in doing so he discovered that he'd just created something, probably more interesting!
If you're a someone in the process of giving fly tying a go as a new hobby or maybe you're just used to creating your tried and tested patterns, try finishing off that pattern you made a mistake on or the one you used the wrong materials for. You may find you've just created something unique and deadly!
All materials needed to tie this fly are available from Glasgow Angling Centre or Edinburgh Angling Centre and are listed below. As always, if you need any help finding materials or substitutes, we’ll be happy to help.
