How to tie the Depth Charge Buzzer with Steve Cullen

When the Brown Trout season rolls around in March, your fly box needs to be stacked with patterns that can truly deliver. One early-season essential that Steve refuses to fish without is the Depth Charge Buzzer, a proven heavy hitter as Steve calls it.

As Steve walks us through the materials, he highlights a key detail that sets this pattern apart. Many anglers fishing early-season buzzers lean toward lighter hooks, but Steve deliberately opts for a heavier hook. The added weight helps the fly sink at a more effective rate, keeping it in the strike zone longer when trout are hugging the depths.
