The Edinburgh New Year Shore League got off to a challenging but memorable start on Friday 9th Jan, with the opening leg fished on the Joppa end of Portobello Beach. Sponsored by Edinburgh Angling Centre / fishingmegastore and Cox & Rawle, the match attracted a strong turnout of 24 anglers.
Despite what appeared to be favourable conditions, competitors found the fishing far from easy. Anglers had to work hard through large numbers of undersized fish, making it a testing night on the beach. By the final whistle, a total of 80 fish had been recorded, with Whiting making up the bulk of the catches and a handful of Flounders adding some variety.
Top honours on the night went to Lindsay Bell, who secured his first-ever Edinburgh Shore League match win with an excellent haul of 10 fish for 206 points! Congratulations on a well-deserved victory. Close behind were Stewart Falconer and Ryan Venters, both landing 8 fish for 168 points, with Stewart edging second place on countback.
A special mention also goes to Kevin McNeish, who landed the longest fish of the match, a fine 29cm Flounder.
