How to tie the Green Beret Midge with Steve Cullen

We might be in the colder months, but stillwater venues are as lively as ever with anglers chasing elusive winter Trout. One pattern Steve swears by during this time of year is his twist on a classic parachute fly, aptly named the Green Beret Midge.

This fly is wonderfully simple in both materials and construction. Its body is crafted from a blend of Crystal Flash and Peacock Herl, creating a buggy profile with a subtle but eye catching green shimmer. The signature parachute comes from CDC feathers, which also serve as the perfect material for a light filler dubbing between the body and the post, bringing the whole pattern together.

All materials needed to tie this fly are available from Glasgow Angling Centre or Edinburgh Angling Centre and are listed below. As always, if you need any help finding materials or substitutes, we'll be happy to help.
