How to tie the Shock & Awe Nomad with Steve Cullen

If you’re looking for a fly that turns heads both in the water and along the bankside, this one deserves your attention. Steve Cullen is back with a pattern he’s trusted since the early ’90s: the Shock & Awe Nomad.

True to its name, this fly delivers plenty of impact. Its standout feature is the vibrant, shocking-pink marabou tail, matched with a bold pink fritz body. The pattern is rooted in the classic Nomad: a range of lures developed by Rob Spiller of the Nomad fly fishing team, the recipe for this fly was kept a secret for a long time. Instantly recognisable, the Nomad typically sits farther back on the hook than many traditional trout flies, and the Shock & Awe variant takes that iconic profile and dials it up a notch.

Get a few of these tied up in your fly boxes, you'll be fishing with something that used to be kept a secret in the competition scene and fishing a Nomad will get you instant "cool" points as well plenty of Trout landed.

All materials needed to tie this fly are available from Glasgow Angling Centre or Edinburgh Angling Centre and are listed below. As always, if you need any help finding materials or substitutes, we'll be happy to help.
