How to tie the Flash Tail Blob with Steve Cullen

Every angler has their secret weapon, whether it be a pattern that has fallen to myth or something of their own creation. In any case, we all have one and Steve has decided to show off his own secret pattern, the Flash Tail Blob.

This pattern is essentially a Blob fly, an attractor pattern. However, Steve's take on it crosses over with a streamer to make an out and out LURE. Blobs were originally tied with contrasting or complimentary shades of fritz as the body and tail section. Some people add mirage or sunburst flashabou as tail fibbets but Steve's version uses Mirror Flash piping to create a really flashy attractive tail. A fairly easy pattern to tie and one that Steve swears is "Stupidly effective". So get a few tied and get out catching!

All materials needed to tie this fly are available from Glasgow Angling Centre or Edinburgh Angling Centre and are listed below. As always, if you need any help finding materials or substitutes, we'll be happy to help.
