Paul will be attending our Autumn Open Weekend, September 26th-28th! He will be on our Infamous Fly Tyers Row where you'll be able to ask him questions about this fly, as well the array of other patterns he'll be showcasing on the weekend!
The General Practitioner was designed by Colonel Esmond Drury as a prawn pattern for the River Test. It has been known widely for many years as "The GP". The reason being that the feathers used originate from the male Golden Pheasant.
A photograph is included showing the preparation of both the tippet and rump feather. As can be seen, fibres from the base of the stems (rachis) have been trimmed to form short "outriggers" allowing the feathers to lie flat and not twist when securing with the tying thread. It is my most successful prawn imitation from September onwards on the Cumbrian Derwent. I will be demonstrating the fly at the Glasgow Angling Centre's Autumn Open Weekend.
