This past weekend, the Edinburgh Angling Centre was thrilled to host Martyn Robinson and Jim Fearn from Guide FlyFishing. Taking over the Casting Pond, they showcased an outstanding selection of gear from Rio and Sage, attracting anglers of all skill levels, eager to explore the latest innovations in fly fishing in both single & double handed disciplines.
The atmosphere was electric, with customers testing a variety of rods and reels, while first-time fly anglers sought expert advice on casting techniques, gear setup, and selecting the perfect kit. As Jim Fearn remarked, “We’ve been quite busy, we’ve met lots of interesting people with lots of interesting questions.”
A clear highlight of the weekend was the Sage R8 range. Both Jim and Martyn agreed that the 10ft 7-weight emerged as the standout model, quickly becoming the favourite among visiting anglers. From novices to seasoned professionals, everyone praised its exceptional feel, effortless casting, and remarkably lightweight balance.
Another star of the show was the 14ft R8 Spey Rod, Jim’s personal choice for both his AAPGAI teaching sessions and salmon fishing expeditions. This rod embodies Sage’s dedication to innovation, offering a rare combination: a 14ft Spey rod with fast action, a feature uncommon in its class.
To top it off, Martyn presented the Vision XO Graphene rod, a truly exclusive piece of equipment available in only three locations across the UK, including both the Edinburgh Angling Centre and its sister store, Glasgow Angling Centre. For those interested in experiencing the XO Graphene range first-hand, you now know exactly where to find it.
