Today we are diving into a stillwater sensation - the Fidget Shrimp, tied by Steve Cullen. Steve is tying this one up as a response to a boom in shrimp patterns. Buzzers, Sedges, and Corixia patterns seem to have taken a back seat on some waters with shrimp imitations stealing the spotlight.
The Fidget Shrimp isn’t just another buggy-looking fly, it’s a true attention-grabber. Its design creates plenty of commotion in the water, and that disturbance is exactly what drives trout wild.
One of the great things about this pattern is its versatility. You can beef it up with extra hackle for more movement, or strip it back for a more sparse profile. While the hook size Steve used might not be perfect for ultra-shallow presentations, this fly still excels in shallower water, making it a solid option for stalking trout close to the bank.
