Edinburgh New Year Shore League Match 2 - Finding the Fish on a Dropping Tide

Match Report - Round 2

Match two was fished on the 17th of January at the western end of Newhaven Breakwater and 21 anglers caught a total of 242 fish, mostly the usual Whiting, Dabs and Codling. The match began with lots of fish for some in the first hour but slowed for most anglers after that as the tide dropped away.

The lower pegs towards Newhaven Harbour seemed to hold onto the fish for more of the tide, and the top three all came from the first four pegs that gave them access to moving water for longer.

Thanks to EAC's own Finn Houston for the images from a beautiful clear night along the shore. We often speak to residents who are unaware of the quality fishing that's right in front of them even more so when they see 100s of fish being caught in an evening.

Top three on the night were:

  1. Christopher Cooper, 26 fish for 562pts
  2. Gordon Mcleod, 25 fish for 545pts
  3. Billy Buckley, 22 fish for 494pts

Longest fish of the night was a 41cm Cod caught by Chris Barrett

It was another successful night and a big swing in the overall standings showing it can all change. Thanks to everyone who's come along to these matches, organised by EAC Manager Ian with prizes sponsored by Fishingmegastore and Cox & Rawle. The atmosphere is always competitive but very friendly so if you're a budding match angler or just fancy learning about fishing within the capital city we recommend coming along and having a cast.
