Edinburgh Winter Shore League Match 4 - Blanks Avoided in Cold Conditions at Newhaven East

Match four of the 2024 Edinburgh Winter League was fished on the 22nd of November at Newhaven East in very cold but calm conditions along the busy residential sea front. 

28 Anglers weighed in a respectable 325 with the usual mixture of Dabs, Whiting & Codling. The sport was pretty consistent and every angler avoided the dreaded blank.

Winner on the night was EAC staff member Gordon Lyall with 24 fish. Longest fish was a 44cm Cod caught by Gav Owen. So far this year year 40 anglers in total have taken part in EAC store manager Ian Campbells league and we hope to see this number continue to grow as the years go on. Top three rods on the night were 1st Gordon Lyall 24 fish for 550pts 2nd Neil Cutler 20 fish for 485pts 3rd Steve Potts 21 fish for 476pts

Top Methods:

With calm conditions on a small tide most anglers opted to fish 1-3oz weights with heavier style grip leads not being required. Fish were caught at all ranges on the night. 

Top baits was definitely Mackerel, whether fished as the main bait or tipped on worms baits like lugworm.

Continental style rods or sea quiver tip style rods are suited to this style of fishing in calm conditions due to their increased sensitivity, matched up with a fixed spool reel loaded with relatively light (0.35) line.
