Learn how to tie the Deer Hair Emerger with Allan Liddle

Besides being a generic pattern, the Deer Hair Emerger is known across the globe and today we are checking out how Allan Liddle ties this fly. This particular version includes some CDC which acts as the shuck adding a little extra imitative quality.

The slender body combined with the Deer Hair head means that once the shuck and head are ginked up this emerger pattern will sit nicely cocked in the water. Paired with a well-degreased leader it's visible above the water so you can spot it easily and very tempting to a Trout's eye view from below. These are a go-to on any water with rising fish especially when the Midge Pupae are emerging, fighting through the surface layer as they move from nymph to fully-fledged adults.

Allan will be featured at our Fly Tyers Row during the Open Weekend and he would be delighted if you'd stop by. Ask him about the latest patterns he's tied or for tips & tricks to help improve your own fly tying skills! He will be tying a range of flies throughout the weekend, so pop by and watch a master at his craft!
