The championship was keenly contested between seventeen teams of four, with the victory going to Menteith Ospreys who took GOLD & a cheque for £3000 catching a staggering 89 fish for a winning weight of 195.14.

1st Place Team - Menteith Ospreys

Fished over two days at the exceptional Lake of Menteith a total of 948 fish were caught on methods ranging from the dry fly to the washing line in the changeable conditions. Day one saw a bright clear day and flat calm that made the anglers work hard for their first fish. The Lake is fishing well at the moment and rewarded  their efforts with 406 fish banked. Day two was more favourable, warm with a nice ripple on the water with the final total of 948 fish caught over the two days.

For many of the competitors, it was their first time visiting the Lake of Menteith and they were blown away by the size and power of the fish and can’t wait to return. The average size of the one fish bag taken by each competitor over the two days was over 4lb and a superb atmosphere from the teams travelling from England, Wales, Scotland, Islay, Orkney, Ireland and Northern Ireland to compete.

Daiwa's Hywel Morgan, host of the Untamed Anglers, took a 680 mile round trip from Wales as part of the Ospreys team,

"What a trip what a venue. The only unfortunate thing about the lake of Menteith is that it is a 7 hour drive for me!!! However after spending 4 days there I desperately want to go back as soon as possible. The quality of the fish has to be seen to be believed and in all 4 days I never landed anything under 3lb and my best was well over 6lb.
The competition was a fantastic event well run and a great atmosphere massive well done to the organisers and to Greys for launching this great event.
My kit for the whole trip was Daiwa HM Air 10ft7wt and this allowed me to switch from dries to pulling with confidence knowing that the rod was delicate to fish on top and powerful enough to handle the big fish in the lake. "

Some anglers had the opportunity to fish with people whose home waters were very different and with the international blend. Many new fishing friendships were formed and toasted at the BBQ dinner provided by Lake of Menteith Karma Hotel after the fishing on both Saturday and Sunday.

Teams Setting Off On Day One

Methods varied from washing line to dry fly with the change of conditions on the second day dries came into their own dominating the catch report.
