How to tie the Red-Head Grunter with Steve Cullen

"Nothing new in fly tying" - an old saying in fly tying, that applies to this very fly. Today we are checking out the Red-Head Grunter tied by Steve Cullen. steve describes the "grunter" as a style rather than a single fly but this popular dry fly is something you should always have in your arsenal. A great fly for searching wether it's in the summer where orange and reds come into their own or fished over around weedbeds in the autumn when the big fish are scouring around for a feast.

Steve's take on this fly is to add a bit of colour to the head using dyed orange partridge. It's a big fly that's going to pull fish in so don't be afraid to use it on open water or when there's nothing rising. Have a go at tying this pattern and trying it on your local water!

All of the materials needed to tie this fly are available from Glasgow Angling Centre as listed below, but as always, if you need any help finding materials or substitutes then we'll be happy to help.
