Today we've got Steve Cullens Catmorant - Cat Whisker Cormorant. Steve fishes white Cormorant patterns a lot particularly towards the back end of the season. This version has some colourful tweaks borrowed from proven fish catchers with white, green and a dash of orange that trout seem to hone in on.
Steve recommends fishing these in a team with a sinking line down to a Di3, although some people like Cormorants on a washing line he finds they're most effective fished fast in a team of lures alongside a booby on the point. If you're fishing small stillwaters give it a try with some nymphs or diawl bachs and fish quicker than you normally would when nymphing.
It's a slender fly with plenty of turns so it's a tough pattern that will stand up to hungry fry-bashing trout attacks.
All of the materials needed to tie this fly are available from Glasgow Angling Centre as listed below, but as always, if you need any help finding materials or substitutes then we'll be happy to help.
