Today we are checking out an iconic and popular dry fly called The Plume Tip, tied by Steve Cullen. This fly, according to Steve and many other anglers, was originally created by Jeremy Lucas who is one of the most internationally recognised figures in contemporary sport of fly fishing for Trout and Grayling!
Presented properly, The Plume fly will never be rejected according to Jeremy Lucas and in his own words, "Why would it be? It is the perfect generalised impression of the hatching, or hatched, upwing, or midge, with no embellishment..." and he's not wrong too.
This fly in terms of materials is relatively simple, but it's one of those flies that will produce results when you've exhausted just about every other pattern in your box. It just works! Steve also makes it clear that this fly can be tied on a variety of different sized hooks, so get a few of them tied up, ready for saving that blank!
All of the materials needed to tie this fly are available from Glasgow Angling Centre as listed below, but as always, if you need any help finding materials or substitutes then we'll be happy to help.
