If you are looking for a classic pattern which catches fish across the world, then you'll want to pay attention to this one! Today are having a look at the Classic Zonker pattern, tied by Steve Cullen. The Zonker is a pattern which was created in the 1970's by an American fly angler named, Dan Byford Zonker! His vision for this pattern, was to create a fly which imitated that of a small baitfish.
In the 80's and 90's this fly caught many fish in the UK, but as time went on, the materials changed subtly, replacing the original Rabbit Zonker strip, for that of Mink. However, today, Steve is making use of the original materials and using Rabbit!
Few materials are needed to create this awesome fly pattern and the Zonker is pretty special considering it catches fish all over the word and has done for decades. A simple, straight forward pattern which will provide results. Get a few of these tied ready for your next day out!
All of the materials needed to tie this fly are available from Glasgow Angling Centre as listed below, but as always, if you need any help finding materials or substitutes then we'll be happy to help.
