Our staff aren't just normal staff members, they're also experienced anglers who've helped a lot of customers get started with certain fishing disciplines, in Coarse, Game, Sea and Predator fishing! So, we asked our Edinburgh staff, what's their must-have's are for this Winter in regards to coarse fishing.
Staff member, Callum, breaks down his must-have's for this Winter:
The Daiwa Feeder Combos are an excellent pick for someone that wants to have a crack at some feeder fishing this winter but doesn't want to break the bank. Rod reel & line for £59-69.99 is an absolute bargain and I've had carp up to mid doubles on mine so they definitely can handle the bigger fish. They also offer a float combo for a similar price.

Maggot feeders are an essential bit of kit for bottom fishing as the cold weather draws in. Whether you're targeting roach and perch or still trying your luck for carp - maggots are obviously an all year round bait but for me a real confidence booster in winter. I've always used Kamasan black cap feeders and as they offer a variety of weights, you'll always have something to suit the distance you're fishing at.

I'll usually use these with Feedabeads as it makes chopping and changing feeders/weight of feeders much easier!

I also like to use groundbait at this time of year as it's less likely to feed the fish off, and tend to favour black match, worm meal and halibut style groundbaits. I save the sweeter stuff for the summer months.
To make fishing a little easier/more comfortable I'd recommend the Preston Anychair adapter so you can always be sitting on your rod, and I use the Guru Reaper Headrest for a range of movement/positioning when setting up.

Obviously, a big part of winter fishing is making yourself comfortable on the bank in colder conditions. It's much easier to enjoy yourself when you're not freezing! That said, here's a few items we really like for keeping warm on the bank:
Daiwa Sleepskin - thermal base layers at this time of year are an absolute must, and at £49.99 you'll struggle to find anything better priced than these.

Bridgedale Heavyweight socks - most of the staff in Edinburgh Angling Centre swear by these in the winter.

High quality waterproofs - Vass or Guy Cotton - anyone that's done a fair bit of course fishing will appreciate that having waterproofs/outerlayers that are easy to wipe down or wash is a must.
Vass-Tex Lightweight Packaway Jacket & Trouser Set |
My favourite item of the year has been the Yeti flasks. They'll reliable keep your coffee/tea hot for hours on end and a hot drink on a freezing cold day is definitely a mood booster.
