Today we are checking out the Satsuma Buzzer tied by Steve Cullen. If you are looking for an early season pattern that will work a treat, then have a go at tying this! Steve explains that when its bright and sunny, the flashy colour scheme of this buzzer is what entices a bite. Buzzers are the second stage of a midge's development from larva to fly and can be found throughout the water column to just below the water's surface. The best thing you can do is fish them almost static, allowing them to drift with the wind and move with the currents so that trout take them naturally and confidently. Buzzer takes can be arm-wrenching when the fish are feeding hard but always keep an eye out for subtle twitches on your fly line or movement on the bung and strike to set the hook.
All of the materials needed to tie this fly are available from Glasgow Angling Centre as listed below, but as always, if you need any help finding materials or substitutes then we'll be happy to help. Time to tie the Satsuma Buzzer, with the guidance of Steve Cullen.
