Tying a Tippet Octopus Wet Fly with Davie McPhail

The Octopus Fly is essentially a wet Mayfly pattern that is particularly popular on Irish Loughs. These flies vary greatly in colour, some bearing little resemblance to the hatching natural fly. Most of the popular patterns include classics such as the Lansdale and Lough Erne Gosling as well as modern flies with muddler heads and bodies of gold and pearl. The Variant that Davie is tying today is a take on the Octopus Fly but adding Golden Pheasant Tippet and Olive Badger Hen hackles.

Hook: Fulling Mill Competition Heavy Weight Size 10  Thread: Uni-8/0 Chartreuse Tail: Glo-Brite No.5 Flu-Hot Orange No.10 Flu-Yellow Rib: Small Oval Gold Tinsel Body: Honey Olive Dubbing Body Hackle: Golden Yellow Hackles: Dyed Flu-Yellow Golden Pheasant Tippet and Brown Olive Badger Hen or Furnace Eyes: Jungle Cock
