Tying a Hackled Mop Fly by Steve Cullen

Mop flies or the "Junk Fly" to those across the pond are a simple flies that have become incredibly popular. This popularity stems from their simplicity and the fact that they can be fished all year round. These flies come in a variety of colours and sizes, as well as some featuring a Bead in different parts of the fly, depending on what you want the fly to do. If the bead is near the head of the hook, the intention is to "jig" the fly to entice a strike, but others prefer to place the bead at the centre of the hook shank to allow a slow, uniform sink rate that flutters in the water column.

All of the materials needed to tie this fly are available from Glasgow Angling Centre as listed below, but as always, if you need any help finding materials or substitutes then we'll be happy to help. Time to tie a Hackled Mop Fly, with the guidance of Steve Cullen.
