This week Davie is combining the elements of traditional flies from both sides of the Irish Sea to make a superb variant on the Dunkeld. The Dunkeld is a firm favourite of any Loch or Reservoir angler. The Dunkeld is a great attractor fly for Brown Trout, especially when Orange Buzzers are hatching or in late June, when Trout are actively feeding on Perch Fry. As well as being an attractor for Brown Trout, Dunkelds are regularly used for targeting Salmon and Sea-Trout in Rivers and Estuaries after a spate, leaving the water heavily coloured. Davie McPhail's adds in a little colour and tied in the Octopus style that was perfected on Irish loughs like Melvin. This is a fantastic fly to have in your box all season.
All of the materials needed to tie this fly are available from Glasgow Angling Centre as listed below, but as always, if you need any help finding materials or substitutes then we'll be happy to help. Time to tie a Dunkeld Octopus Wet Fly, with the guidance of Davie McPhail.
