Orvis Ultralight Convertible Waders Review

Orvis Ultralight Convertible Waders Review
The Orvis 'Ultralight Convertible Waders' are made in mind with keeping everything light as possible for anglers. They are designed for comfort, reducing bulk, while also retaining performance and durability.

They feature a four-layer waterproof and breathable nylon outer shell which has been given an upgraded laminate to increase the breathability. On the inside is a smooth nylon tricot lining, so the waders just slide over undergarments.

Orvis Ultralight Convertible Waders
Available in S to XXL, with regular, short, long and extra-long fittings.  All seams have been kept away from high wear areas, and are taped on the inside.  They also feature extra reinforcement tape applied to the ‘stress’ areas on the inside legs, knees and crotch.

The feature which stands out the most is the Fidlock Snap magnetic suspension system.  It allows the waders to be easily converted to a waist style. Just release the two magnetic cup fasteners at the front and the one on the back (this is easier if you pull the back of the waders to the side). Then the waders will slide down the suspension braces so that you can wear them as a waist style.

The adjustable webbing braces are fixed internally to allow the suspension system to work. The section of braces that go over the shoulders is made from elasticated webbing, while the bottom portion is a thin, smooth webbing.

There’s a large rubber spreader bar at the back, so they stay in place, and on the front are two rubber tool tabs, ideal for forceps or zinger attachment.

The waders are a contoured fit around the legs, which helps to reduce resistance when wading but still allows for a good range of movement. The upper body is a roomier fit, and the top hem can be tightened using a cord and single toggle lock adjuster.

The neoprene gravel guard design is elegant. The guards are a continuation of the wader leg material with no outside seam. And rather than the usual elasticated hem, the guards feature a black stretch neoprene panel insert on the outside of the ankle cuff, which gives an excellent tight fit around the boot. There’s also a webbing tab and metal lace hook to attach the gravel guards to your wading boots.

The contoured stockingfeet booties are made from quality neoprene and are fully taped. They are shaped for left and right feet, giving an excellent and comfortable fit.

There is one external chest pocket featuring a YKK water-resistant zip with an ‘easy grip’ pull tab. On the front, there is a small fly patch and a tool tab. On the inside of this pocket is a sizeable four-way stretch pocket with zip closure, and just below the zip is a strip of Velcro to which you can attach the Orvis waterproof pocket.

Two integrated belt loops accommodate a 1.5-inch wide elasticated, adjustable and detachable wading belt with a quick-release bayonet fitting.

Orvis Ultralight Vibram Sole Wading Boots
These waders are stockingfoot and will require the additional purchase of wading boots. Luckily Orvis have launched their 'Ultralight Wading Boot' to accompany the waders. The boot offers the same excellent performance and durability as the waders, plus the Custom Vibram® EVA midsole offers all-day comfort.

These incredibly light, flexible, comfortable and overall impressive waders have been achieved the Trout Fisherman magazine “Tackle Tester’s Choice” accolade, so when thinking about your next pair of waders, they really should be in the running.
