Tying the G&H Sedge Grannom with Davie McPhail

Invented by John Goddard and Cliff Henry, the G & H Sedge pattern makes a very buoyant trout fly which can skate over water whilst it remains above water and floats like a cork. With the skillfully shaped deer hair, you can be sure that this imitation fly will offer a convincing appearance whilst floating high up for longer.
When it comes to skillful, few fly tiers can match that of Davie McPhail, who is tying a G&H Sedge Grannom this week, as seen below. All of the materials needed to tie this fly are available from Glasgow Angling Centre as listed below, but as always if you need any help finding materials or substitutes then we'll be happy to help.

Materials Used:
Hook: Fulling Mill - Ultimate Dry Barbless Sz14
Thread: Uni - 8/0 Grey
Egg Sack/Tail: Glo-Brite Floss, No.12 Lime Green
Wing & Body: Roe Deer Body
Hackle: Cock Neck - Ginger

If you don't have a bookies' pen handy, you could try a Stonfo Hair Packer. Davie's preferred type of whip finish tool can be found HERE!
