This week, a little something different as Davie McPhail shows us a fly he tied as part of a fly-tying competition which won him the round back when he participated in competitive fly-tying between 1985 and early nineties. The fly is his own variation on a Goat's Toe and Butcher which he dubbed "Davie's Toe."
All of the materials needed to tie this fly are available from Glasgow Angling Centre as listed below, but as always if you need any help finding materials or substitutes then we'll be happy to help. Without further ado, here's Davie McPhail tying his own pattern, "Davie's Toe."
Materials Used:
Hook: Kamasan B160 Sz12
Thread: Uni - 8/0 Red
Tail: Stillwater Cock - Dyed Red (Fibres)
Tag: Uni - 8/0 Red
Rib: Uni - French Oval Silver (Wire)
Body: Plain Silver Tinsel or Holographic Silver Tinsel
Body Hackle: Dyed Black Hen or Dyed Black Cock
Front Hackle: Veniard - Blue Peacock Neck Feather
Davie's preferred type of whip finish tool can be found HERE!
