Tying the Duckfly Hog Hopper with Davie McPhail

Davie ties a Duckfly Hog Hopper this week, bringing a versatile pattern that will help you catch the best fish you can. The pattern is quite similar to a Fulling Mill Half Hog Silver but also quite like a Stillwater Duckfly Emerger, bringing the best of both worlds.

All of the materials needed to tie this fly are available from Glasgow Angling Centre as listed below, but as always if you need any help finding materials or substitutes then we'll be happy to help. Without further ado, here's Davie McPhail tying the simple but effective Duckfly Hog Hopper.

Materials Used:
Hook: Fulling Mill B160 Trout Medium Short Shank Sz12
Thread: Uni Thread 8/0 - Black
Body: Veniard - Natural Peacock Quills
Thorax: Hot Orange and Red Seals Fur or Substitutes
Wing: Deer Hair and CDC
Legs: Dyed and knotted Cock Pheasant Tail Fibres
Hackle: Dyed Black Indian Cock Cape

Additional materials: Additionally, Davie used Varnish on the head of a fly, with a piece of wire to clean out the eye.
