When to Catch Mackerel In Scotland Mackerel are one of the most popular and abundant species for the Scottish shore angler, great to eat and use for bait too. However, they aren’t around in huge numbers all year round so it’s important to time your trip right for the most chance of success. So when should you target Mackerel in Scotland? So what time of year do we look to catch Mackerel in Scotland? If you want to catch Mackerel, you have to time it right. Mackerel migrate to our shores to spawn in shallower water than they overwinter in and will often start to show up in boat anglers catches in mid to late spring (March-May). Glasgow Angling Centre is NOT in the LEZ - Glasgow Low Emission Zone Boundary!

The Glasgow City Low Emission Zone (LEZ) was introduced on the 1st June 2023, but there have been no changes for our staff and customers getting to the Glasgow Angling Centre as we are outwith the boundary of the LEZ and completely unaffected by the restrictions. Getting to us is easy via the M8 Motorway: If you're travelling Westbound come off at Junction 16 If you're travelling Eastbound come off at Junction 17 Glasgow was the first of four cities in Scotland to introduce a Low Emission Zone (LEZ), on 1 June 2023. Zones in Edinburgh, Dundee and Aberdeen will take effect in June 2024. Choosing The Right Salmon Fly Line

Choose the Right Fly Line When it comes to choosing a Salmon Fly Line , it can be quite confusing. Each can achieve the same end, but some are easier to use than others. Today's vast range of salmon lines and sinking tips means you no longer need to use heavy flies to gain depth. So where do you start? The three constituent parts of a Salmon fly line include the running line, head, and tip. These are sometimes formed into one line or presented in 3 separate parts, and sometimes sold separately. The language can be confusing but the principal terms to understand are head, belly, and body. Running line means shooting line. When it comes to Salmon Lines, they are usually categorised as a Spey line, Skagit, Multi-tip Spey line, Shooting head and running line. Tips can be rated S1 to S6.
