GHOF Trustee - Paul Devlin |
Get Hooked on Fishing (GHOF) is the principal case study for research commissioned by the Big Lottery Foundation (www.anglingresearch.org.uk/youngpeople). In 2010 GHOF worked with 5,576 young people across the UK, and our work is held in high regard at both national and regional government.
GHOF uses angling as an intervention tool in some of the most deprived areas of the UK, to inspire disengaged young people. We deliver a range of angling and environmental related activities suitable for young people of all abilities. Our measured outcomes include increased levels of self-esteem, confidence, employability, a transformation in young people's behaviour and their relationship with society and school.

We also offer a range of activities designed to maintain and develop interest, including:
· Sports coaching and Environmental Education.
· Community restoration projects · Peer mentoring
· ‘Catch and Cook’ healthy lifestyle programmes
· ASDAN, AQA, OCN, BTEC and other accredited courses, curriculum matched.
Our vision is to establish a sustainable social enterprise network throughout the UK. To engage in the region of 20,000 young people, per year, in positive activities, including angling and environmental studies, with a focus on engaging disaffected young people to create new pathways toward further education, training and employment.
We are looking for a trustee with skills in education, youth work and/or business to join our trustee board. The main purpose of the role is to influence and build strategic support for our work with young people at risk of social exclusion. We are also looking for volunteers across the UK, especially in the central belt of Scotland where we are setting up another project. Find us at www.ghof.org.uk
If this sounds like something you would be interested in please get in touch!
Warmly,
Paul
