This fly is rather controversial and it fishes very well after a flood. It's distinct look makes a lot of anglers think that there's no way this pattern will work, but it works and Steve assures us of that as well. </p><p>Part of the controversy surrounding this fly is the fact that it's mostly banned from competition venues. due to it's unnatural size, colouration and sink speed, any fish that spots this fly has never seen anything like it before and therefore strikes at it. In fact it's so good at what it does it's not only banned from UK competitions but a lot of US competitions too!</p><p>Besides it's controversy, it's a cracking fly to use on stillwaters and reservoirs, it's apparently very good at picking up Grayling, but Steve mentions he's never tried it, but he assures us that Trout will happily pick this fly up, time and time again.</p><p>All of the materials needed to tie this fly are available from <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-materials_525.html">Glasgow Angling Centre</a> as listed below, but as always, if you need any help finding materials or substitutes then we'll be happy to help. </p><div><br /><iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/t0JDlKVOLuI?si=JokuDCjRJBx5QnXl" title="YouTube video player" width="560"></iframe><u><br /></u><u><br /></u><br /><u><b>Materials Used:</b></u><br /><div><b>Hook: <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-hooks/partridge-suj-patriot-ideal-jig-barbless-hooks~21567.html">Partridge SUJ Patriot Ideal Jig, Size 10</a></b></div><div><b>Bead: <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-beads-and-eyes/veniard-slotted-tungsten-beads~170.html">Veniard Slotted Tungsten Bead 3.8mm Black</a></b></div><div><b>Thread:</b> <b><a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-threads/uni-thread-60-and-80-waxed~51.html">Uni Thread 6/0 and 8/0 Waxed, Black</a></b></div><div><b>Body:</b> <b><a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-synthetics/veniard-mop-chenille~63734.html">Veniard Mop Chenille, White</a></b><br /><b>Dubbing: <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-dubbing/veniard-stickle-dub~61546.html">Veniard Stickle Dub, Natural</a></b></div><div><b>Hackle: <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-feathers/-english-partridge-brown-back~2255.html">English Partridge Brown Back</a></b></div></div><div><b><br /></b></div><div><b>Need all these materials? <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/quicksearch-21567+170+51+63734+61546+2255">View all of the mentioned materials here!</a></b></div><div><br /></div><div><div><a href="http://gac.fishing/ewKGr" target="_blank">Sign up today</a> to receive our regular newsletters and keep up to date with the latest products and fantastic offers to suit all styles of angling. The Clydesdale Stealth Jig Pike Fly is designed for slightly deeper water that gives an exaggerated jigging action that large Pike and other predators will find hard to resist.</p><p>Cast this fly out and allow it to sink to the bottom and then gently strip it through the water. Pause, allow it to drop down again and then hold on because it’s during this fall that you will feel a sudden strike!</p><p>It’s a great pattern for when the fish are playing hard to get or on those sunny days where the heat from the surface, pushes Pike to the deeper, colder parts of the water. It’s a fantastic fly to use so get a few of these tied and ready for that next fluff chucking session!</p><p>All of the materials needed to tie this fly are available from <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-materials_525.html">Glasgow Angling Centre</a> as listed below, but as always, if you need any help finding materials or substitutes then we'll be happy to help. </p><div><br /><iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/pC_02bBSFro?si=PMVvSJZeaebF_6xN" title="YouTube video player" width="560"></iframe><u><br /></u><u><br /></u><br /><u>Materials Used:</u><br /><div><b>Hook: <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/sea-fishing-hooks/partridge-universal-predator-x-hook~14433.html">Partridge Universal Predator X Hook, Size 2/0</a></b></div><div><b>Thread:</b> <b><a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-threads/uni-thread-60-and-80-waxed~51.html">UNI 8/0 Grey</a></b></div><div><b>Body</b>: <b><a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-synthetics/veniard-rippleflash~2474.html">Veniard Rippleflash Silver</a> & <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-synthetics/hedron-holographic-flashabou~2395.html">Hedron Holographic Flashabou Green</a> & <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-synthetics/h2o-polar-fibre~2488.html?&housecode=FVE0163AI">H2O Polar Fibre Grey, White and Green</a></b><br /><b>Glue: <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-varnish-and-resin/gulff-minuteman-super-glue-15ml~49708.html">Gulff Minuteman Super Glue 15ml</a></b><br /><b>Gills: <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-synthetics/veniard-antron-body-yarn-aby~2526.html">Veniard Antron Body Yarn Claret</a></b></div></div><div><b>Bead: <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-beads-and-eyes/lureflash-1m-plastic-bead-chain~73334.html">Lureflash 1m Plastic Bead Chain Black</a></b><br /><b>Eyes: <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-beads-and-eyes/veniard-epoxy-eyes~66230.html">Veniard Epoxy eyes</a></b></div><div><b><br /></b></div><div>Need all these materials? <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/quicksearch-51+2370+14433+33544+2242">View all of the mentioned materials here!</a></div><div><br /></div><div>Paul Clydesdale will be attending our <a href="https://fb.me/e/8y3P3ZtsI">Open Weekend</a>, representing Vision! This pattern is a take on a fly found on <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fishing-brands/Caledonian+Flies.html" target="_blank">Caledonia </a>Fly called the Deer-Shucker. However, Steve's variant has this tied onto a completely different style of hook with two thread deniers. With the limited number of fishable days it’s important to take advantage when the water suits so wrap up and brave the cold while you have the chance. To me there is nothing better than getting up in below freezing temperatures and driving to a river just before dawn and getting ready for a day’s adventure. With that in mind I got out in the ice and spent a day on the Welsh Dee with good friends Steve and Callum Smalley and Andy Taylor and after a great breakfast bap cooked by Steve we ventured onto the river!!</p><p><br /></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKM1a6r62zZsqJw4fFxXdnmWfGlS8aOjMCfPeF3xlVXVSXeSmMVB1Baj3icRsESMJiagskWfUnJrDYjQToBnJUu4NrRYckeocAypPlxbayVCXdxTRUWktmbknYsFnJBLNfzJ4bvy4OwNiJOnuF54bYJ0ztnGvsv0qR1twoSdkXfrVyM5JVa7ElMGTXSpXi/s1080/Breakfast%20First.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="808" data-original-width="1080" height="478" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKM1a6r62zZsqJw4fFxXdnmWfGlS8aOjMCfPeF3xlVXVSXeSmMVB1Baj3icRsESMJiagskWfUnJrDYjQToBnJUu4NrRYckeocAypPlxbayVCXdxTRUWktmbknYsFnJBLNfzJ4bvy4OwNiJOnuF54bYJ0ztnGvsv0qR1twoSdkXfrVyM5JVa7ElMGTXSpXi/w640-h478/Breakfast%20First.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">First things first - breakfast rolls</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><p>After the major floods the river had changed a lot since my last visit and runs and pools were very different. Places that always hold fish were devoid and it meant a challenging day trying to find the fish. It’s a great lesson to any angler, fish move and will find new places to feed and hold, spots that were once very productive will now be dead. </p><p><a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/view.php?module=productsnew&search=grayling&searchbutton=" target="_blank">Grayling </a>will start to shoal up at this time of year so you do need to be mobile and cover a lot of water but when you find them then you are in for some fantastic sport. Top tip here is to make sure you are well layered with proper clothing that will wick away sweat while keeping you warm especially when the sun drops down!! </p><p>Methods are simple at this time of year and it is a french leader with a jig fly on the point and 1 or 2 flies up the cast depending on depth and clarity. Make sure you have a good selection of different weighted jig flies so as you can change to heavier or lighter flies as you move to different runs. Basically you want the point fly to trundle along the bottom of the river just like a natural insect, if the point fly goes in and does not move then go lighter and on the other hand if you don't feel the point fly trundling along the bottom go heavier. </p><p>In the past I always carried a spare rod so that I could swap techniques quickly but since developing the <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-rods/daiwa-air-ags-hywel-morgan-series---single-handed-fly-rods~60832.html" target="_blank">Daiwa HM 9/10ft 3-4wt</a> I don't have to as the rod does everything I need it to do, however I do carry all my other casts already made up on the tronix pro foam <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/view.php?module=productsnew&search=tronixpro+rig+winder&searchbutton=" target="_blank">winders </a>and if I need to change tactics then it takes seconds to do so. One last thing if you are not a confident wader then a <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/wading-staffs_4063.html" target="_blank">wading staff </a>is a must as it will help you out in tricky situations and let you wade safely.</p><p>-------------------------------------</p><p>Hywel is a World record caster, Welsh internationalist, TV presenter and a game consultant at Daiwa as well as a fantastic Guide and Instructor. It might just be a Buzzer, but Chronomids are the staple diet of all stillwater Trout and as Steve explains this is a simple, effective fly that seems to fish better when tied to a straight hook. Common Buzzer flies are typically tied to a grub or buzzer style hook with a constant curve. Steve tends to make use of this fly in the early season, when bloodworms are being targeted by hungry Trout.</p><p>This buzzer is effective, easy to tie and it only requires a small handful of materials! Get a few of these tied up, ready to go for the Season's start!</p><p>All of the materials needed to tie this fly are available from <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-materials_525.html">Glasgow Angling Centre</a> as listed below, but as always, if you need any help finding materials or substitutes then we'll be happy to help. </p><div><br /><iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/FVrUIfY2_po?si=tH8DcBD-KB5Q8pIH" title="YouTube video player" width="560"></iframe><u><br /></u><u><br /></u><br /><u><b>Materials Used:</b></u><br /><div><b>Hook: <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-hooks/kamasan-b175-trout-heavy-traditional~282.html">Kamasan B175 Trout Heavy Traditional, Size 10</a></b></div><div><b>Thread:</b> <b><a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-threads/uni-thread-60-and-80-waxed~51.html">Uni Thread 6/0 and 8/0 Waxed, Black</a><br />Ribbing: <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-threads/lureflash-flexi-floss~47693.html">Lureflash Flexi Floss, Red</a></b></div><div><b>Head: <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-synthetics/veniard-ultralace-tubing~2559.html">Veniard Ultralace Tubing, Red</a></b></div><div><b>Thorax: <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-tinsels/uni-pearl-mylar~1397.html">Uni Pearl Mylar</a></b></div></div><div><b>Glue: <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-varnish-and-resin/gulff-minuteman-super-glue-15ml~49708.html">Gulff Minuteman Super Glue 15ml</a></b></div><div><b><br /></b></div><div><b>Need all these materials? <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/quicksearch-282+51+47693+2559+1397+49708">View all of the mentioned materials here!</a></b></div><div><br /></div><div><div><a href="http://gac.fishing/ewKGr" target="_blank">Sign up today</a> to receive our regular newsletters and keep up to date with the latest products and fantastic offers to suit all styles of angling. According to Steve, this is a real gem of a fly, because it's mostly used for the most cunning wild Brown Trout. However, it is just as effective if you're targeting Rainbow Trout. </p><p>This fly is a variant of the famous river fly called, the Cul De Canon, created by Gwilym Hughes. The Cul De Corrib Midge is a little heavier than the Cul De Canon as it provides a better target for larger fish, looking for a big meal. The Genghis Blooby, tied by Steve Cullen. It's bright, it's big and it's designed to pull the attention of fish from miles away! Steve first witnessed this fly being used in an International match on Bewl. It was being used by an opposing team and it was providing some excellent results.</p><p>It's a fairly straight forward fly to tie, usually on a size 6 hook, with a light coloured thread. Two complimentary colours of fritz and a nice sized booby eye, preferably with each eye being rounded using a lighter. Finishing off with a good painting of resin, in your preferred colour. For this example, it's a lovely bright yellow. Get a few of these tied up in bright, flashy colours, ready for your next session!</p><p>All of the materials needed to tie this fly are available from <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-materials_525.html">Glasgow Angling Centre</a> as listed below, but as always, if you need any help finding materials or substitutes then we'll be happy to help. </p><div><br /><iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/wshMbJwo8WM?si=MQZWpjZ32XnpW4_b" title="YouTube video player" width="560"></iframe><u><br /></u><u><br /></u><br /><u><b>Materials Used:</b></u><br /><div><b>Hook: <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-hooks/fulling-mill-31510-short-shank-special~389.html">Fulling Mill 31510 Short Shank Special, Size 6</a></b></div><div><b>Thread:</b> <b><a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-threads/uni-thread-60-and-80-waxed~51.html">Uni Thread 6/0 and 8/0 Waxed, Cahill</a><br />Body: <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-synthetics/veniard-mop-chenille~63734.html">Veniard Mop Chenille Chartreuse & Original Sunburst</a></b></div><div><b>Head: <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-synthetics/veniard-booby-eyes~2515.html">Veniard Booby Eyes Medium</a></b></div><div><b>Resin: <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-varnish-and-resin/gulff-uv-resin-ambulance-15ml~59851.html">Gulff UV Resin Ambulance Yellow 15ml</a></b></div></div><div><b><br /></b></div><div><b>Need all these materials? <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/quicksearch-59851+51+2515+389+63734">View all of the mentioned materials here!</a></b></div>D Harperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03169127911296097490noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5363513983853752494.post-32166564286546876692024-02-05T14:49:00.001+00:002024-02-05T15:58:11.599+00:00MUST HAVE Stillwater products at Edinburgh Angling Centre!<p>If you haven't heard of the Stillwater brand, then you're going to be interested in this! This fly, according to Steve and many other anglers, was originally created by Jeremy Lucas who is one of the most internationally recognised figures in contemporary sport of fly fishing for Trout and Grayling!</p><p>Presented properly, The Plume fly will never be rejected according to Jeremy Lucas and in his own words, "<i>Why would it be? Sometimes though you just want to catch without toughing it out on stormy nights and the Edinburgh Shore League has proven there are plenty of fish to be had from some very urban marks that offer easy access and a good scratching setup is the key!</p><p>Mixed bags are the expectation when you're sea fishing. In recent winter comps we've seen anglers catching W<span style="text-align: center;">hiting, Dabs, Coalfish, Flounder, Codling and even some Sea Scorpion. Bagging up on these takes the right approach to take advantage and hookup efficiently.</span></p><p><span style="text-align: center;"></span></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhWfocYI-EHNJu7m_ILvEaDdAd8C-YsAdd-FEDoIkp9PH2A0muRZ2mOTFCIBWsSWrUJ3vYltHrCALRcIgr0wONiTJmLgUXUIupvGu1prcICeIZUiu6Vhg3IRrHnp9VLAhIuYg_qjUswf_WbDozXmH7PdD5QUURqsKFjnMGuMpDbDzA-00u8F6n0VR1sWjJw" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="" data-original-height="1742" data-original-width="1846" height="378" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhWfocYI-EHNJu7m_ILvEaDdAd8C-YsAdd-FEDoIkp9PH2A0muRZ2mOTFCIBWsSWrUJ3vYltHrCALRcIgr0wONiTJmLgUXUIupvGu1prcICeIZUiu6Vhg3IRrHnp9VLAhIuYg_qjUswf_WbDozXmH7PdD5QUURqsKFjnMGuMpDbDzA-00u8F6n0VR1sWjJw=w400-h378" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Flounder and Whiting on the Scratching Rigs<br /><br /></td></tr></tbody></table>Scratching is usually done by anglers when they are in a competition where catching even a small fish could be the difference between winning and losing. However, many pleasure anglers like myself will setup scratching rigs chasing bites over a blank session and you simply want to catch the less desirable, smaller fish which may be present. <div><br /></div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgocRIX0Sl_9ZwARbYK5UozFXD15HU1R3kmG3w2a7VwSWcH2URD27hao6dFOADqS1k11BidRLrpqnxZUak9pP9oqbhM9JfC-aQ8nuaADOIkMwXHNiVhYXznvDQTkcPgaZixKZ5sFS8h2AhcJY-lrhieuCszumJzYTQeLQmUAid_Jccq3ayVmzBYTqjlEZY/s900/15lb.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"></a><br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiFcr03FZFeu4du1InR89wv357ygeMrxvDp4S813XyjaiBv9x5WE-aqWTGY9Z-GrONEEt_-Axs87ydDpXFK-XyCUnU4HrxhjMMXBeQ8qnM9DGyFalTm-MXjXVdMb3OfSobWzQEXJjEUeiiYwNnk7Nq7vNPR5rTECAFOFRxwXWjG-PMsg7tuoCNEsauLtYo0" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="331" data-original-width="900" height="148" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgocRIX0Sl_9ZwARbYK5UozFXD15HU1R3kmG3w2a7VwSWcH2URD27hao6dFOADqS1k11BidRLrpqnxZUak9pP9oqbhM9JfC-aQ8nuaADOIkMwXHNiVhYXznvDQTkcPgaZixKZ5sFS8h2AhcJY-lrhieuCszumJzYTQeLQmUAid_Jccq3ayVmzBYTqjlEZY/w400-h148/15lb.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/bait-rigs/tronixpro-3hook-flapper-3up-rig~11035.html" target="_blank">Tronix 3 Hook Flapper Rig</a> Setup</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><br /><br /><br />A <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/view.php?module=productsnew&search=flapper+rig&searchbutton=" target="_blank">flapper rig</a> or a specific scratching rig with two or three smaller hooks will create a better scent trail and allow several different baits to be used increasing the chances of attracting fish to the rig. The very first match saw 22 anglers catching 55 fish with the top rod going to David Cooper who had 7 fish for 193cm. The final match of 2023 produced some excellent fishing with a total of 440 fish between the 29 anglers who fished. You can't catch if you don't go and it was going to be a beautiful clear frosty day so at least there would be beautiful Trossachs scenery around the <a href="https://menteith-fisheries.co.uk/" target="_blank">Lake of Menteith</a> to photograph.</p><p>With a a fairly icy road on the approach I got to slow down and appreciate the scenes but I'd heard the fishing has been superb recently so hopefully the camera would be focussed on overwintered Trout. My colleague Stevie Francis had given me a few hotspots to aim for and recommended fishing static under the bung. I much prefer drifting and pulling wets on the big waters but you're best listening to good advice so I had two rods set up, one for traditionals, the other a much more modern approach. </p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0Y58t6Wqc2lIjDpwC3GvkburkiYqaIeBzSWX2avCI62SwZ5VwAj_-mHaj0LZaHz4lQXnwEkCO9Wcw3wDYTawiXelFDbF1qhPchuu4GO803utzo7Rs_NEmNRCB0BNsLE99XO42zSJHEWIbFIMh472DzqXTl3zDBkP9ykA0nSVEA_akUX0kql6vI4SeChAb/s1600/Stu%20Bev%201.JPG" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1204" data-original-width="1600" height="241" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0Y58t6Wqc2lIjDpwC3GvkburkiYqaIeBzSWX2avCI62SwZ5VwAj_-mHaj0LZaHz4lQXnwEkCO9Wcw3wDYTawiXelFDbF1qhPchuu4GO803utzo7Rs_NEmNRCB0BNsLE99XO42zSJHEWIbFIMh472DzqXTl3zDBkP9ykA0nSVEA_akUX0kql6vI4SeChAb/s320/Stu%20Bev%201.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Flat Calm</td></tr></tbody></table><p>Setting out over a glassy surface there was little chance of setting up a drift, but it did mean I could spot fish moving which does wonders for your confidence. In a flat calm if you want to cover water you've got to let the engine do the work and hunt out fish around a big loch. Give it some time in each, try to stay patient while fishing static but don't just wait it out as your rod rings ice up especially when there are fish on the feed. A Snot Fly and Cat Bugs had been the recommendation, so I had my bung set around 12ft with a two fly team. </p><p></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjmhxicDwfl1HykUpysx80YpC_zGe57yTRx0shANhfYp-cOXJEUK2nN2Zdw24RzHSqMlDd2-qk0PlXNCwr7xHnPd_xTwP6WocYcuAIl0-HGzRHQbEjD0qKKpuM7FV7gwl1YLY1w3HMyhGhMVVXgCKkJqfaBqrX75Qw9eJM3frchkXiG6IVxNXoZe-ZRKJ89" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="" data-original-height="1920" data-original-width="1536" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjmhxicDwfl1HykUpysx80YpC_zGe57yTRx0shANhfYp-cOXJEUK2nN2Zdw24RzHSqMlDd2-qk0PlXNCwr7xHnPd_xTwP6WocYcuAIl0-HGzRHQbEjD0qKKpuM7FV7gwl1YLY1w3HMyhGhMVVXgCKkJqfaBqrX75Qw9eJM3frchkXiG6IVxNXoZe-ZRKJ89=w320-h400" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Snot Flies - not exactly traditional</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><br /><p></p><p>I'd seen another angler netting a fish while I was warming my hands on a mug of coffee and clearing the rod eyes so I was sure there were some about. On the second or third spot I got a twitch, a dip and struck into a fish... for a minute before it shook itself loose but it was enough to keep me fishing hard. Getting into the zone of slowing everything down, letting it settle and fishing essentially static I moved along that bay trying a few more spots before swinging back around and restarting the hunt.</p><p>Whether that had given the day long enough to warm a little or the fish just switched on either way the blank was off as some fine-looking Rainbows took the <a href="https://gac.fishing/yBfPM" target="_blank">Mojito Snottie</a>. The pick of the bunch was probably over 5lb and this time there wasn't even time to strike as the indicator buried and the fish took off. Well mended, fully finned with a big tail that it put to good use stripping line off the reel. It's exactly why you'd drag yourself out in the cold and more than enough to justify sunset pics on the way back to the boatyard before the nice wee drive home. </p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0yShyphenhyphenhCieNlf28md3QCXMTvwLsp1G-LMXNuHpCxeysCMdou_7mQ2ZSnbBlDYiuO2W5Z_IlASA2FusmWL8uoBAt47xpiKY5653Nvh5pwpI6_ayQ3OVL9-hEaGDVr8n-Mj2G2nCCHq8Pstr_NXZoVJ6XO0Ww1DZXME9BH07hnm28AVBlB0K710uwROsFhdi/s1600/Stu%20Bev%202.JPG" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1204" data-original-width="1600" height="482" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0yShyphenhyphenhCieNlf28md3QCXMTvwLsp1G-LMXNuHpCxeysCMdou_7mQ2ZSnbBlDYiuO2W5Z_IlASA2FusmWL8uoBAt47xpiKY5653Nvh5pwpI6_ayQ3OVL9-hEaGDVr8n-Mj2G2nCCHq8Pstr_NXZoVJ6XO0Ww1DZXME9BH07hnm28AVBlB0K710uwROsFhdi/w640-h482/Stu%20Bev%202.JPG" width="640" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Sunset Scenes</td></tr></tbody></table><p><br /></p><p>Book a boat on the Lake of Menteith here https://menteith-fisheries.co.uk/online-booking/</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div>Stuart's Kit<br />Rod: <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-rods/sage-r8-core-series-rod~74899.html" target="_blank">Sage R8</a><br />Reel: <a href="http://fishingmegastore.com/fly-reels/sage-spectrum-c-fly-reel~48199.html" target="_blank">Sage Spectrum C</a><br />Line: <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-lines/rio-gold-elite-fly-line~61581.html" target="_blank">Rio Gold Elite</a></div><div><br /></div>Judging by the comments thread on our <a href="https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=692367393034905&set=a.509006764704303" target="_blank">Facebook post</a> they might not be for everyone but they are effective! <br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><p><br /></p>JKN BWhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08213366375688892633noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5363513983853752494.post-6209493337789404412024-01-11T09:03:00.000+00:002024-01-11T09:03:23.350+00:00How to tie The Lap Dancer by Steve Cullen<p>Today we are checking out The Lap Dance, tied by Steve Cullen. The Lap Dancer is based off a Scottish stillwater favourite, the Yellow Dancer. The Yellow Dancer is probably the most popular lure there is for stillwater fly fishing. First used in Newmills Trout Fishery in the 90's this pattern was responsible for some incredible catches on the Fishery and since then has spread across the UK providing result after result.</p><p>As for the Lap Dancer, it is tied with a darker, more richer Sunburst Yellow Tail. The bead used is also a vibrant attractive orange, this produces a natural trigger for fish. The pattern also makes use of Lite Brite in Gold creating a very bright, flashy body and just like that of a Yellow Dancer, the hackle through the body which creates a lot of disturbance as it's pulled through the water.</p><p>All of the materials needed to tie this fly are available from <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-materials_525.html">Glasgow Angling Centre</a> as listed below, but as always, if you need any help finding materials or substitutes then we'll be happy to help. </p><div><br /><iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/3DrjkiSVK6A?si=V5Z6Rx5gy37j_VFN" title="YouTube video player" width="560"></iframe><u><br /></u><u><br /></u><br /><u>Materials Used:</u><br /><div><b>Hook: <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-hooks/kamasan-b130-trad-wet-fly~21798.html">Kamasan B130 Trad Wet Fly</a></b></div><div><b>Thread:</b> <b><a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-threads/uni-thread-60-and-80-waxed~51.html">Uni 8/0 Thread, Fire Orange</a></b></div><div><b>Bead: <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-beads-and-eyes/veniard-tungsten-beads~26919.html">Veniard Tungsten Bead, Orange</a></b><br /><b>Tail: <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/marabou/veniard-large-selected-marabou~2346.html">Veniard Large Selected Marabou, Sunburst Yellow</a> & <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-synthetics/veniard-nano-krystal-flash~63733.html">Veniard Nano Krystal Flash, Pearl</a></b></div><div><b>Ribbing: <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-wire/veniard-coloured-copper-wire-fine-02mm~78824.html">Veniard Coloured Copper Wire Fine 0.2mm, Gold</a></b></div><div><b>Dubbing: <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-dubbing/spirit-river-lite-brite~2650.html">Spirit River Lite-Brite, Gold</a></b></div><div><b>Hackle: <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-capes/stillwater-indian-capes~17.html">Stillwater Indian Capes, Orange</a></b></div></div><div><b><br /></b></div><div><b>Need all these materials? <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/quicksearch-21798+51+26919+2346+63733+78824+2650+17">View all of the mentioned materials here!</a></b></div>D Harperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03169127911296097490noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5363513983853752494.post-63416628834624048612023-12-22T14:22:00.000+00:002023-12-22T14:22:50.969+00:00How to tie The Cow Dung Fly by Steve Cullen<p>Today we are checking out Steve Cullen's Cow Dung Dry Fly. This fly is a great imitation of an orange/yellow terrestrial Dung Fly (Scatophagidae) that's abundant on waters around the country where there are cows grazing nearby you'll have seen them buzzing are cow pats. The naturals are often blown onto the water and the Trout love them!<br /><br />Steve uses a cowled wing of Tan Dry Yarn that's the same length as the fly, slightly cloaking over a scuffed up thorax which also adds to the buoyancy of the fly perfect for spotting takes and keeping it fishing for longer.<br /></p><p>He also uses a combination of colours to match the hatch and adding a little sparkle that makes it a surprisingly effective pattern through the summer and autumn when the flies are buzzing around. Tied on a size 12 but just as effective in other sizes to suit conditions, if you fish upland waters or anywhere close to pastures this is one to have ready in your box.</p><p>All of the materials needed to tie this fly are available from <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-materials_525.html">Glasgow Angling Centre</a> as listed below, but as always, if you need any help finding materials or substitutes then we'll be happy to help. </p><div><br /><iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/DXTrQ-V1tV8?si=LWjw1KbtFmcJ5V6d" title="YouTube video player" width="560"></iframe><u><br /></u><u><br /></u><br /><u>Materials Used:</u><br /><div><b>Hook: <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-hooks/partridge-sud-surehold-upwing-dry-barbless-hooks~337.html">Partridge Surehold Upwing Dry Hook, size 12</a></b></div><div><b>Thread:</b> <b><a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-threads/uni-thread-60-and-80-waxed~51.html">Uni 8/0 Thread, Cahill</a></b></div><div><b>Butt: <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-tinsels/uni-pearl-mylar~1397.html">Uni Pearl Mylar</a></b><br /><b>Torso: <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-dubbing/veniard-seals-fur-subs-dub-box~19608.html">Veniard Seals Fur Subs Dubbing Box, Ginger</a></b><br /><b>Wing: <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-synthetics/veniard-polypropylene-floating-yarn~2529.html">Veniard Polypropylene Floating Yarn</a></b></div><div><b>Hackle: <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-capes/stillwater-indian-cock-capes~2369.html">Stillwater Indian Cock Capes, Golden Olive</a></b></div><div><br /></div></div><div><b><br /></b></div><div><b>Need all these materials? <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/quicksearch-337+51+1397+19608+2529+2369">View all of the mentioned materials here!</a></b></div>D Harperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03169127911296097490noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5363513983853752494.post-72535453544129982082023-12-14T13:07:00.000+00:002023-12-14T13:07:05.536+00:00How to tie the Cut-Throat Cat by Steve Cullen<p>Today we are having a look at the Cut-Throat Cat, tied by Steve Cullen. If you are looking for a pattern that will provide results throughout the Winter, then the Cut-Throat Cat is what you need. Ideal for when Trout are feeding on fry, fattening themselves up for the cold Winter months. </p><p>It's a perfect fly for small stillwater venues but it can also be used on large reservoirs too! The Beaded head will allow this fly to flutter down through the water column and the long rabbit strip, paired with the fritz will create the disturbance needed to lure in those hungry Trout!</p><p>With the ability to create your own unique colour combos, it's no wonder many anglers have an assortment of these flies in their fly boxes. Get yours tied up today, get out early on your next trip and land some fish!</p><p>All of the materials needed to tie this fly are available from <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-materials_525.html">Glasgow Angling Centre</a> as listed below, but as always, if you need any help finding materials or substitutes then we'll be happy to help. </p><div><br /><iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/GTKbivX4BB4?si=oG8cX5yRTIHTZQQd" title="YouTube video player" width="560"></iframe><u><br /></u><u><br /></u><br /><u>Materials Used:</u><br /><div><b>Hook: <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-hooks/sprite-s2175-barbless-competition-wet-hooks~55110.html">Sprite S2175 Barbless Competition Wet Hooks, Size 8</a></b></div><div><b>Thread:</b> <b><a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-threads/uni-thread-60-and-80-waxed~51.html">Uni 8/0 Thread, Orange</a></b></div><div><b>Eyes: <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-beads-and-eyes/veniard-bead-chain~41119.html">Veniard Bead Chain, Silver</a><br />Tail: <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-furs-and-hair/-rabbit-body-patch~2420.html">Rabbit Body Patch, White</a><br />Wrap: <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-fritz-and-chenille/fap-straggle-fritz~14420.html">FAP Straggle Fritz, Chartreuse</a> & <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-tying-fritz-and-chenille/grando-micro-straggle-fritz~8274.html">Grando Micro Straggle Fritz, Orange</a></b></div><div><br /></div></div><div><b><br /></b></div><div><b>Need all these materials? <a href="https://www.fishingmegastore.com/quicksearch-55110+51+41119+2420+14420+8274">View all of the mentioned materials here!</a></b></div>D Harperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03169127911296097490noreply@blogger.com0
