Okuma ALC-20CS Multiplier is a Winner

The Okuma ALC-20 Multiplier Reel is going to be a huge seller in 2017. Paul Fenech of Sea Angler has recently carried out a field test on the reel and the verdict? Well it’s no surprise that the ALC-20 ticks all the boxes - and some!
Okuma ALC-20 Reel
Just some of the key features include: injected carbon side plates, self-lubricating gear system for maximum heat dissipation, drop-down gearbox for maximum gear sizing and external magnetic control.  However this doesn't even scratch the surface of what this superbly engineered reel can do.

From conception to implementation, the design and build focuses on the needs of today's modern shore angler so the ALC-20 makes the experience of casting your baits long into the surf and retrieval as smooth as it gets.  Read  Paul Fenech's Okuma ALC-20 Review here.

Chub RS-Plus Bivvy For All Weather

The Chub RS-Plus Bivvy is a solid, durable bivvy that lets you fish in all weather conditions. It's very easy to assemble, has plenty of room and with a hydrostatic head of 5000mm, is extremely waterproof for those days when it decides to chuck it down.

The beauty of this bivvy is that there are various permutations regarding the door which lets you set up the bivvy to suit your requirements.  For example there's a mozzie door, clear door and zip off option of the whole front section which is great for warmer conditions.  This also lets you easily move in and out if your bite alarm goes off.  If you pitch the open face away from the wind, it also acts as a fantastic wind break.  Alternatively if you need bed down for the night, attach the appropriate door and lay the detachable groundsheet.

For greater strength and security, there are shock-corded pegging points which lets you add more pegs in case the wind gets up.  This keeps the whole bivvy structure solid.  For even greater solidity the RS-Plus also comes with inline bivvy tension bars.

In terms of assembly, it is very easy.  In the beginning you will need to follow instructions however with repeated practice of assembly and disassembly, it becomes a breeze.  It has 3 poles which fits into 3 sections and once inserted it's just a case of hooking the poles into the pegging straps and the whole thing can be erected in one go.

Chub have really put anglers at the centre of the design of this bivvy.  It's deceptively roomy so you've got plenty of room for a bivvy bed and all your gear.  It's easy to carry, is lightweight and includes high quality screw style bivvy T-pegs with drawstring bag.  Perfect for Carp or Pike anglers.

Scierra EDP V2 4 Section Fly Rod

Whether you are a novice or expert caster, you will be impressed with the Scierra EDP V2 9ft6 #7 4 Piece Fly Rod.  With a crisp mid to tip action that offers precision and control, you can expect long casts, tidy loops and fast recovery.  This is thanks to the high quality, amber finished carbon blank which is extremely light and slender but also powerful enough to throw a seven weight fly line a decent distance.

The EDP V2 is also fitted with a combination of hard chrome snake guides and SiC shooting guides which offer very little resistance and increase shootability.  In the reel seat department there is a screw-up design that locks the reel tightly in place, so there's no need to worry about your reel loosening or falling off when you are fishing.  It's also supplied in a protective Cordura rod tube and quick drying rod sock for protection and transportation.

There are many reasons to buy the Scierra EDP V2.  High end features and styling, fighting butt, quality cork handle and quality aluminium reel seat, but ultimately you are getting a rod that is very easy to cast, feels light and can load deeply therefore generates a lot of power for longer casting.  It's great for small stillwater Trout fishing and the perfect tool for fishing a team of buzzers or stripping lures.  It's powerful carbon blank can easily handle aggressive takes and can effectively control hooked fish right up to the landing net.

Eiger Black Thermal Fleece Trousers

When the temperature drops and you can't find the motivation to get out fishing, all you need to do is get your base layering right.  So if you are wearing a pair of waders or bib and brace, an additional pair of thermal leggings or trouser will give you a welcome layer of insulation.  Even if you are spending a few hours outdoors, cold evenings or during winter, thermal fleece trousers can make a huge difference.

A base layer is normally worn next to the skin or close to the skin in a system.  In terms of the legs, the system normally comprises of a pair of thermal leggings or fleece trousers which fit snuggly to your body.
It essentially functions as an extra layer of skin on your body and depending on the moisture wicking properties of the garment, will transport moisture away from the body therefore preventing you from getting refrigerated.  However, heat is retained.

Eiger Black Thermal Fleece Trousers make the perfect thermal base layer.  They are made from 100% soft polyester coral fleece in 300g with a high loft function for extra warmth.  Brushed on the inside and featuring an elastic waist and lycra bottom leg cuffs for good fit and more importantly, keeping heat in!  They are light, comfortable and durable.

For Fishing, Eiger Thermal Trousers are perfect.  If you are Trout fishing from the bank or boat and it's a cold, windy day, worn with a pair of waders, good quality waterproof trousers or bib and brace your legs will be totally warm and snug.  Of course you want to enjoy your days fishing without feeling miserable, so a pair of thermal fleece trousers are a fantastic investment.

Alternatively, if you are a salmon angler or spend a lot of time in the water spinning, casting and moving between croys in safe water, you need that extra layer to insulate you from the cold water temperature.  Without breaking the bank you can continue to enjoy your fishing no matter what mother nature throws at you.  Even if you are a keen sea or predator angler, a pair of Eiger Fleece Trousers will give you the confidence and comfort to fish during the harshest conditions.

Coleman 250 Lumens Battery Lock Torch

Coleman have created a Battery Lock Torch that's perfect for anglers. It offers 250 lumens of sheer torch power and can last up to 35 hours on low mode - with an impressive 40m range. Alternatively if you need full beam and need to trek back from a remote location back to the car, it will happily run for 3 hours at a range of 160m.

The clever thing about the Coleman Battery Lock Torch is that it is made to preserve battery life and reduce the possibility of battery corrosion and/or leakage.  It's made from anodised aluminium so it's built to withstand typical knocks and bumps, is water resistant, comes supplied with 2 x AA batteries and weighs 137 grams.

From a safety point of view, it is important to have the appropriate equipment, especially if you need to walk in the dark along steep banking, through vegetation or need to walk back along roads or pavements that have no lighting.  With he Battery Lock Torch you will be visible to passing traffic and can easily illuminate the path in front of you.  Another scenario is having a Coleman Torch as a back-up to a head torch, especially if you decide to fish in a remote location.

Whatever your application, the Lock Torch is a trusty piece of kit.  It's simple to operate - just twist the head upwards to engage the batteries - and is a life saver in sticky situations.
