Megabass Vision OneTen Lures - Now In Stock!

We now have stock of the popular Vision OneTen lures at Glasgow Angling Centre. These lures are gaining in popularity among Salmon anglers and are now the lure of choice on many beats of the River Tay and others, knocking the Rapala off the top spot, as well as being a favourite among Bass anglers in the UK.
The Vision Oneten has gained a bit of a reputation on Scottish salmon rivers!
GAC have various versions of the 110's in stock, and these come in a variety of colours. They are expensive but each one is like a miniature work of art, and their proven catch record and easy casting design is hard to ignore!
The unique internal design means these cast a long way!
Megabass Vision 110 - The Original!
Proving their worth and causing a storm on the UK Salmon and Bass fishing scene, the original Vision 110 lure from Megabass is a highly versatile diving jerk bait with an action and look that works equally well in fresh and salt, moving or still waters, thanks to the top notch features they sport. These include internal rattles for maximum attraction, tungsten composite balancing weights for optimised casting distance and nose first dive in the water, and a host of superb visual attractions including projecting gill plates, red throat, lateral line and lifelike scales and eyes. The Vision Oneten is proving particularly deadly when allowed to come to a dead stop. As the lure slowly floats back to the surface, this lip action is often enough to induce powerful takes.
The Original Vision Oneten weighs in at 14.3g and 110.5mm in length
Megabass Vision 110 Jr.The little brother of the original Vision Oneten, the Oneten Jr is ideal for those finicky, easily spooked fresh and saltwater targets. The Vision Oneten Jr. measures in at 98mm, weighing 10.6g, and features the same high quality fixtures, fittings and finish as all Megabass lures.
The Vision Oneten Jr. measures in at 98mm, weighing 10.6g
The Vision Oneten+1 from Megabass is built to the same shape and design as the standard Oneten, with an extended, more horizontal lip to deliver a deeper diving, more erratic action in the water. The Oneten+1 still boasts the same high quality fixtures, fittings and finish common to the unbelievable Megabass range. Deadly in salt and fresh, moving or still water and dives between 1 and 1.5 metres deeper than the original.
The Vision Oneten+1 weighs in at 14.3g, measuring 110.5mm
Vision Oneten Magnum
Big brother to the standard Vision Oneten, the Vision Oneten Magnum range boasts all the fantastic features of its smaller labelmate, with an increased size, weight and float-ability. This delivers a larger lure that casts further and returns to the surface faster on reel-stop, giving you a more aggressive action befitting of the larger size.
The Vision Oneten Magnum lure measures in at 130mm, and weighs 18g

The Scottish Midge!

Summer time at GAC is when we hold our regular staff match fishing nights at Magiscroft Coarse Fishery, a chance for staff to socialise and try something different, with this type of fishing being a bit outside of many of our teams normal comfort zone as far as angling goes. Some of these nights are held in memory of former staff members who have passed on others are just for fun and all involve Scotch pies, cakes, prizes and banter but by the time the weigh-in comes around there is always talk about one thing - MIDGES!
GAC shop matches are generally a laid back affair!
There are only 5 of the 37 species of Midge found in Scotland that bite us. Almost 90% of all midge bites on humans in Scotland are carried out by the Highland Midge (Culicoides Impunctatus). There are many ways to avoid being bitten by Midges but by far the best repellent we have found is Ultrathon by 3M.
3M Ultrathon is the best midge repellent we have ever used!
Originally developed for the military to provide long lasting protection in tropical environments, Ultrathon features Time Release Technology which enables DEET, which repels midges and other biting insects better than anything else, to be released over a longer period of time. This means you spend less time re-applying repellent and more time fishing, shooting or just enjoying being outdoors! Once applied as per directions on the bottle just give it 10 or 15 minutes to start working and the Midges will leave you alone and you have the choice between a spray or a lotion.
When Highland Midges attack - a feeding frenzy!
DEET has used in insect repellents for more than 50 years and has been studied more extensively than any other repellent ingredient. It is the most widely used active ingredient in insect repellents worldwide and is unequalled when it comes to keeping Midges, Mosquitoes, Ticks, and other bugs away. It is no more dangerous than any other chemical we come into contact with daily provided you read the directions for us. However you should be careful not to get any DEET products on your gear as it can melt or damage some plastics!

There are of course many other methods of protection yourself from the biting Midge such as Midge head nets, Midge hats, repellent wristbands, sonic repellers and even gas powered Midge repellents like the Thermocell units all of which together with DEET repellents are much more effective and consistent than some of the more, shall we say, "homeopathic" repellents and beauty products we hear being recommended to customers every year!

You can buy 3M Ultrathon and many more Midge repellants at Glasgow Angling Centre both instore and online HERE!

First Look - BugBond Mains Professional Lamp!

Bug-Bond is used by 1000's of fly tyers worldwide for it's versatility!
There have been a number of sightings of a new piece of fly tying kit over the past 2 years - you might even have spotted it at our last couple of Open Weekend Events! David Edwards, the man behind the Bug-Bond phenomenon, has kept this exciting development close to his chest, Research and Development at Bug-Bond HQ never stops, and David has been busy working on this project in the background but with design protection now in place we reckon it is time to make an announcement - a new Bug-Bond UV light source!
The Bug-Bond Professional Light set the benchmark for UV curing torches!
So what is the new kit? Well it’s more of an upgrade! Bug-Bond where not going to introduce another new light when thousands of GAC customers have already shelled out for the Professional UV Light and are very happy with it! Powered by a single AA battery the Bug-Bond Professional UV Light set a new benchmark in curing UV resins for fly tying, offering great curing performance with long battery life it looked like they had cracked it. However, David was already designing the next phase, to design a light with a continuous source of power that doesn't run out or vary - a mains powered unit. Since the Bug-Bond range didn't need another light the new one was designed as an upgrade that uses the existing Professional Light and gives the end user the best of both worlds - mains power with portability when you need it!
The new lamp is mains powered and has a foot pedal switch!
Those who have seen David tying at various shows over the past 18 months or so may have seen the new setup, though he has been fairly coy and kept it under wraps as much as possible. World class flytyer Barry Ord Clarke has been testing the new unit and has been seen at the Swedish Fly Fair and Norwegian Fly Fair with it - not only that he was photographed using it by Tore Litlere Rydgren in Norway. However, this wasn't the first photo of the light that made it into the public domain, the first was of Cheryl McCrory tying her first fly at the GAC Open Weekend event last September!
Cheryl using the new light at the GAC Open Weekend  in 2012
So what does the new kit consist of? The main component is a remote foot pedal that replaces the the switch on the Professional UV Light. This in turn is powered from the mains electricity via an AC/DC adapter, giving the user the convenience of mains power with a nifty foot operated UV light source (leaving both hands free to manipulate materials etc) as well as the portability demanded by the travelling fly tyer. You could keep the foot operated switch at home for the tying bench and when going to a fly tying club or on a fishing trip, return the light to AA battery operation - another first for light cured resins in fly tying from Bug-Bond who remain at the forefront of the fly tying resin market and have picked up 2 innovation awards over the last two years to prove it!
Barry Ord Clarke testing the new unit at the Norwegian Fly Fair
The new Bug-Bond mains UV curing lamp will be available complete or as a retro fit kit for your existing Bug-Bond Professional UV Light from Glasgow Angling Centre soon! To register your interest in one please contact us through the usual channels and keep an eye out on Facebook, Twitter or the Blog for the latest info!

Reel Porn!

Found on Vimeo, with this description...
This rare and desirable 2 7/8" Hardy fly reel called The Perfect, is literally perfect in every respect. It is post-war model that has been its original box for nearly 70 years and is without flaw or defect. Not even dust has tarnished its finish. My goal for this project was to present the "model" as an object of desire through the elements of lighting, music, and a combination of fleeting glances.

Is there a fly reel with more sex appeal than the Hardy Perfect? Let us know!

Made in UK - The RB1 Salmon Fly Reel!

The new British made RB1 from The Fly Reel Company!
When Tim Brown of The Fly Reel Company Ltd told me he had something special to show me I just had see it. The following day he showed up at the GAC with a flight case containing some of the coolest fly reels and fly reel components I have seen in a long time, something pretty special for me as a big time fly reel geek! When he told me it was completely developed, machined and built in the UK I was suitably impressed, but maybe a little anxious about how this would affect the selling price! Luckily it was around half of the the four figure sum I had imagined and we done a deal to take delivery of these new reels as soon as the first batch was ready in June 2013. Introducing the The Fly Reel Company Reel Britannia RB1!
An early CAD drawing of the RB1
The mission statement of The Fly Reel Company was a simple one - to design, develop and produce high performance British made fly reels! And we can honestly say that they have achieved this, through the use of cutting edge engineering materials including aerospace grade aluminium, titanium and high grade composites, combined with CNC precision engineering technology, to produce a reel in the UK which redefines quality.
One of the prototypes test fitted on a saltwater fly rod
The Reel Britannia Salmon fly reel is a wholly British designed, British manufactured, anti-reverse fly reel. Initially only 200 of these unique reels will be produced, each one individually serial numbered and registered to its owner. The RB1  has been meticulously designed and tested and features a unique fully sealed carbon/kevlar brake set up which works on both sides of the spool at once, effectively doubling the efficiency of the drag system. A massive and amazingly robust one way pin bearing, capable of withstanding enormous force, operates this drag system and the unique anti reverse system. The robust construction of the frame and spool means it is suitable for fishing in extreme conditions and although specifically developed for Salmon fishing it is more than capable of taking on a whole host of saltwater big game species that require a serious drag system and a large capacity of backing such as Tarpon, Sailfish, Giant Trevally and many others. And all of this from a product that is designed and produced right here in the UK - even the reel pouches are handmade in North Yorkshire!
The finished article from the front...
The initial prototype of the RB1 was designed and tested in collaboration with Lancaster Universities Engineering Department, where dozens of drag materials were tested under extreme conditions in order to select the compound with the highest performance. The chosen compound, coupled with Titanium disks not only withstands temperatures in excess of 200°C, but provides a silky smooth drag with virtually no stick-slip, a phenomenon that that plagued fly reel designers for many years. The RB1 reel weighs in at 365 grams, just under 13oz in old money, perfect for most double handers, and for everyone that is wondering, yes, it has the most amazing click sound option on the way out so you can hear that lovely music of the reel as you lift into every Salmon you hook on it for years to come!
... and the back!
The RB1 reel features include;

• Machined from solid block aerospace grade 6082 Aluminium, hard anodised to MIL Spec 8625 Type 3, class 2
• Precipitation hardened and pacified 17-4 Stainless Steel shaft and 316 Stainless components
• High performance composite drag material coupled with large Titanium disks, producing up to 18lbs of drag force
• Heat generated during a run is dissipated through the ported Aluminium spool to prevent overheating
• Titanium click and pawl system with optional click check - sounds amazing!
• Easily interchangeable between left and right hand wind requiring no tools
• Zero backlash anti-reverse system with large exposed palming rim
• Reverse tapered handle to prevent line snagging when casting
• Line Capacity: 300m 30lbs Dacron + shooting head/spey line or 500m 50lbs gel spun + WF12F
• Reel Weight 365 grams unloaded
• Heavy duty needle clutch bearing with a dynamic load rating of over 350kg
• Fully sealed clutch and bearing arrangement with Viton O-rings
Tim Brown and Shaun Benzon of The Fly reel Company Ltd
You can pre order your individually numbered RB1 reel from Glasgow Angling Centre now from their website or instore, the first batch of 200 should arrive in late June so don't delay if you have a preferred serial and we will try to get it for you if you contact us soon enough!
