Bug-Bond Confirm for GAC open Weekend Event!

Since becoming available in 2009, Bug-Bond has become one of the most talked about products in fly-tying circles… it has been listed as a Best Seller here at the Glasgow Angling Centre since it first featured in the store, a must have on every fly-tyer’s desk!
For those who have missed out on this product, it is a single part acrylic that cures when exposed to a certain frequency of UV light. Bug-Bond was the first light cured acrylic to enter the market with a tack-free surface specifically aimed at the fly-tyer. In addition to being tack-free, it is resistant to both yellowing and cracking or shattering. The benefits for the fly-tyer are numerous, and the material is limited only by the tyer’s imagination. As Chris Sandford has shown in his DVD and booklet ‘Mayflies and More’, it gives a great strengthening coat to small trout flies such as ‘The Bullet’ and the ‘Ducking Feadly’. It also gives a resilient surface to tinsel on salmon tubes or protection on large flies for pike and saltwater species. With Bug-Bond there is little or no wastage, it’s easy to apply and very quick to cure.

David Edwards, the owner of the Bug-Bond brand said, “ I am delighted to be at the Glasgow Open Weekend again… I have had so much support from both GAC and the customers at the show that these are the dates in the diary not to be missed. I and a number of tyers on the tying row will be tying with Bug-Bond at the weekend and you should see a variety of flies being tied using the material. I look forward to renewing acquaintances and also meeting new Bug-Bond users.”
Hywel Morgan whilst tying a buzzer on Tight Lines (June 2011) with Keith Arthur, stated that Bug-Bond “…is fabulous, it has revolutionised fly tying.”

Classed by the progressive fly tyer as an essential tying tool, it is the 2012 Winner of Total Flyfisher magazine’s Best Fly Fishing Innovation Award as voted by their readers.

What is LRF? Let Tronix show you how!

LRF or Light Rock Fishing is a fishing style that has been pioneered by the Japanese over the last 20 years or so and more recently has been adapted to suit the species and habitat of the coast of the UK. One of the main attractions of LRF is that it requires very little tackle and can often be done in very urban areas - and of course it is great fun! The size of the fish you catch is not important in LRF but the range of mini species you will catch is astounding and you will find yourself trying to tick of as many of them as you can. Then of course you will hook up to a small Pollack or Saithe and get the fight of your life on this ultralight tackle! You can see why it has become so popular so quickly!
Have you tried LRF yet?
The current trend for LRF has prompted Tronix to produce a range of affordable rods that are already gaining a great reputation and the Tronix Rockfish range already has a cult following. The guys from Tronix will be on hand at the Glasgow Angling Centre Open Weekend on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of March to give help and advice on all aspects of LRF and of course the full range of Tronix products!

There will be loads of thing to see and do on the Open Weekend dates as well as some amazing bargains on fishing tackle. Clyde Outboard Services confirm for GAC March 2013 Open Weekend!

Clyde Outboard Services, the leading provider of outboards and related services in the Glasgow and Clyde area, will once again be at our March Open Weekend Event showing off some of the latest Honda outboard motors and giving advice on how best to maintain your 2 stroke and 4 stroke outboards. They will also be offering some great deals over the weekend including...

  • 10% off all new Honda outboards for everyone attending the show
  • A prize draw to win a free service on your outboard - any make, any model welcome
  • Book your outboard in for a service at the show and get 10% off
  • Bring your outboard to the store for a service (up to 25hp, please pre book)

Clyde Outboard Services was Launched in 2006 with the aim of providing servicing, repairs and parts for outboard owners in the Glasgow and Clyde area. As well as the workshop, Clyde Outboards provide a mobile service, travelling to you to service your outboard. This is more convenient for outboard owners who can not get to a service centre for reasons such as their outboard being to heavy or fixed to their boat. They are also an official Honda Dealership, and their premises includes a showroom where Honda outboards, inflatables, parts and accessories are on display.

They will also be displaying the popular portable boat from Ezyboat! It's a 14ft boat that folds in half which makes it easy to transport and store.  On the water it's light and easy to use, with a hull design that makes it extremely stable and versatile for a variety of fishing situations on both salt and freshwater.  It can safely take 4 people without tipping and can handle a top speed with 2 fishermen and all your gear of around 23mph on the water.

The Ezyboat has a built-in trailer so it can be attached straight to a car for towing and can be launched very easily without the need for a separate trailer!  Once on the water, the wheels are retracted into the hull which causes minimal drag.

So if you are an outboard owner, or are considering buying one, this is another great reason why you should not miss the GAC March Open Weekend on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of March 2013 or visit the Clyde Outboard Services website here - www.clyde-outboard-services.co.uk

Fish Recreations Confirmed for GAC Open Weekend March 2013!

A stunning Atlantic Salmon!
We are pleased to announce that once again John Edwards from Fish Recreations will be attending our Open Weekend Event on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of March 2013 and following on from last years success he will be exhibiting even more of his amazing works of fish art!

Fish replicas are booming in popularity over more traditional taxidermy and due to their more versatile and ornamental format, are often bought as artworks even by those who have never caught a trophy fish! Why choose a replica from Fish Recreations? There are many advantages to choosing a replica over a traditional taxidermy mount, the most obvious being that the fish is released to fight and grow another day. These days big fish are becoming harder to find, and some species are in decline with strict catch and release policies now in force on many waters worldwide. Once a mould has been taken from a dead specimen, a countless number of casts can be taken from that one mould, meaning no more fish of that size need to be taken from wild stocks. Fish replicas have been made in the USA for many many years, resulting in a huge choice of casts (blanks) to choose from. There is no ugly shrinkage or grease bleed associated with some poorly done traditional mounts, all Salmonid and all salt water species are notorious for "grease bleed as their heads and bodies are packed with natural oils that are all but impossible to remove completely, If undertaken at all, skin mounts of these species in particular should ideally be built with artificial heads and adipose fins. Also there is no fungus, insect infestations, smells or other deterioration that is often associated with some traditional fish taxidermy mounts.
A incredibly realistic 360 degree Rainbow Trout mount!
A good fish replica will be indistinguishable from a traditional fish mount, in fact it will often look even better! Replicas are also much more robust than traditional mounts, handy when life hands out knocks and bumps, and in most cases there is no need for additional expensive covers or cases (depending on type of habitat base) and pricing is often much lower compared with traditional fish taxidermy.
Work in progress - each scale is hand painted!
John says "I have always liked making things, and since I can remember I have drawn and painted, I am self taught apart from an "old" A in O′ level in art at school. (That shows my age!). After years of doing commissions part time on my art work I gradually became less motivated, I needed some thing more. As a keen fisherman I happened to chance upon an American web site with someone selling Fish replicas, I was hooked! This combines model making and painting, Plus most fishermen /women practice catch and release, (apart from "edible" fish such as trout and salmon). Most species are available as part built models from the USA; these still need lots of work done on them using dermal type tools and epoxy resins etc to get them ready to paint. Then I have to construct the base or diorama. To make replicas from actual fish, rocks, plants etc I had to learn the basics of moulding and casting in numerous materials, (I am still am learning) I use numerous types of materials. For painting modern day paints are a joy to use and I use a leading brand of Acrylics, plus the appropriate mediums. The result is a model fish that should last more than a life time."
The eyes are amazingly realistic!
With Fish Recreations you can have your catch of a lifetime "caught" in incredible life like detail, even though your fish was returned safely to the water. Usually all that is needed from you are a few measurements, and one or two photographs of your prize before you return it to the water to enable John to match your fish species and size exactly. Each commission is completely hand made and painted, and some works can take many months to complete. Time is not taken into consideration with this type of art work. Check out the photos on their website to see the stunning attention to detail for yourself! We also have a selection of Johns work on display instore for all our customers to see all year round should you like to view one in person!

Its not often we get completely new and innovative products from a brand like Abel but these are sure to get tongues wagging! The last time it happened it was with the Abel Nipper, which at an eye watering £50, split the fly fishing community between those who were happy to carry on with their £1.50 line snips and those who just had to have the best selling and by far the best quality nippers ever made, with these trinkets being proudly worn around the necks of 1000's of discerning anglers in a rainbow of custom colours like a badge of honour up and down the country!
