The Hardy JLH #7 Commemorative Fly Reel

Glasgow Angling Centre is excited to announce a new Limited edition Hardy Fly reel to commemorate the life of James Leighton Hardy, the last member of the Hardy family to work at the company his grandfather started in 1872, who sadly passed away in July 2012. Demand is expected to be high for these reels with only 85 being made by the craftsmen at the Alnwick company, so it is highly recommended that you contact us to pre order yours as soon as possible to guarantee a reel and to find out which numbers are still available!
Only 85 Commemorative JLH reels will be produced
This limited edition reel has been produced to commemorate the life of the late James Leighton Hardy, after whom the JLH reel was named. Only 85 reels will be made- one for every year of Jim Hardy's life - and these will be highly sought after by Hardy fans worldwide!
Jim Hardy 1927-2012
James Hardy was the last member of the Hardy dynasty to work for the company that his grandfather had founded. Born in Alnwick in 1927, Jim started fishing at the age of 7 and became a very successful angler, winning no less than 38 British and world casting championship titles.

After an apprenticeship at Vickers-Armstrong, he joined the company in the early 1950's and was appointed works director in 1959, leading the firm’s search to develop new materials – a quest which resulted in Hardy’s pioneering range of carbon fibre rods. Jim was also responsible for reel development and introduced one of the firm’s most famous products, the Marquis range, in 1970.

After the takeover by the Harris and Sheldon Group, he took on the role of Marketing Manager and toured the world promoting Hardy products, during a period in which the company won numerous design awards. He retired in 1992 and remained a consultant to the Company until his death.

“My sister Rona and I were fortunate to have our father teach us to fish and, from him we learnt to enjoy the sport in all its glory. It is my hope that you will also have as much pleasure from your purchase of this reel as Rona and I have had fishing with our father.”
Roy Leighton Hardy, son of Jim Hardy.
The original JLH reel - a design classic
The original JLH reel was introduced in 1991, the year before Jim retired and was a piece of classic design that reflected the exacting standards of its namesake. The original range comprised six reels, ranging from a diminutive 2⅞" trout model to a mighty 4" salmon reel and it was one of the first reels that Hardy manufactured from bar-stock alloy, which made it possible to build light, but incredibly strong components which were perfectly matched to carbon fibre rods.

The 1991 reel was the natural successor to the Lightweight range, built since 1936, and it brought the concept up-to-date with an exposed rim, optional left or right hand wind, and a reversible nickel-silver line guard. The range was so popular that it was updated several times, the most significant modifications being the introduction of a powerful disc drag in 2000 and a large arbour range in 2003.

The Hardy JLH #7 Commemorative Reel Features:

• Limited edition of 85 numbered reels
• Based on James Leighton Hardy’s original ‘JLH’ (#7) design
• Wide ranging click check system
• Easily converted from left-hand to right-hand wind
• Unique commemorative engraving
• Wooden handle
• Stunning ‘Rose Gold’ finish
• Supplied in a Hardy Bros. block leather horseshoe reel case
• Hardy Bros. lifetime original owner warranty

Weight - 125g / 4.4oz, Diameter - 88mm, Capacity - DT7+100m 20lb Dacron

The click-check system on the JLH can be adjusted by simply turning the regulator button on the face of the frame: clockwise to increase the check; anti-clockwise to decrease the check. When the reel is not in use, the check should be turned to the minimum setting. The reel is easily converted from left-hand to right-hand wind.

A limited number of reels will be available from Glasgow Angling Centre and will be sold on a first come first served basis, please contact us HERE to register your interest.

Daiwa NewEra SLR Fly Rods - A New Era!

The new Daiwa NewEra SLR - Available early 2013!
It's been a while since we had a really exciting fly rod from Daiwa but the pending arrival of the NewEra SLR fly rods is set to change all that! It's no secret that Daiwa fly rods were one of the earliest contributors to the success and growth of the GAC and the ultra popular WF98 series of fly rods in particular helped catapult the store to the top of the mail order fishing tackle industry, with 1000's of rods sold in the early days from the tiny PD Fishing Tackle premises in Cumbernauld Village, and later from the first Glasgow Angling Centre store in the Gallowgate, Glasgow!
Four sections for ease of transport!
When we were first handed a nameless prototype fly rod from the guys at Daiwa it immediately created a bit of a buzz. This new rod was certainly different from the other top end rods on the market at the time - we were impressed! So impressed in fact that we kept it for a few months, used it for Trout from both bank and boat and even fished for Salmon and Seatrout with it. We put the rod in the the hands of many of our customers and colleagues, never telling them what this rod was or where it had come from as we were sworn to secrecy, and everybody gave it rave reviews, asked countless questions about it, or tried to buy it (or steal it)! And soon the rod that is about to bring the Daiwa brand back to the forefront of fly rod manufacture will be available to buy from Glasgow Angling Centre - The Daiwa NewEra SLR is coming!
Titanium SiC stripping guides and single leg snakes
The rod designers at Daiwa brief was simple: to create a fly rod range that would both cast further and more accurately. Not much to ask! With all fishing rods, torque control and power conversion are the keys to casting distance and accuracy. The NewEra SLR fly rods have been designed around a foundation of Bias Carbon technology. The two directional high grade carbon sheets have been manipulated at 45 degrees, effectively transmitting the energy and compression evenly around the blank and resisting twist during loading.

This application of Bias material effectively doubles the blanks control over blank twist and buckling. Combined with a responsive and crisp recovery in the tip each NewEra SLR rod delivers a notable increase in precise line control, directional change and improved energy conversion - accuracy and distance all in one.
The unique V-Joint system also offers a hidden benefit. This innovative over-cap system allows the rod to internally maintain a Constant Taper Profile. Unlike normal over cap joints the NewEra rods do not increase in diameter at each female joint and then reduce quickly. It is shaped even and constant. This results in a purer power transfer.
The keeper ring on a Salmon model
Each rod was subjected to exhaustive testing and fine tuning by world champion caster, Hywel Morgan,  ensuring that each one not only delivers the intended line rating but has the ability to comfortably handle a rating range either side of that indicated. The NewEra SLR is built entirely in the Daiwa factory in Scotland using top quality Titanium SiC guides combined with durable, lightweight single leg snakes ensure slick line travel and to round the challenge off they have achieved all this in a four section assembly for easy of transport and versatility.
Pre-order yours now from GAC!

These rods have to been seen and cast to be believed, try one instore for yourself and place your pre-order with GAC for delivery in early 2013 - be one of the first angers in the county to embrace this new technology and be part of Daiwa's return to the top!

Daiwa NewEra Trout Fly Rod Features:
Bias carbon technology combined with HVF (High Volume Fibre)
Constant Taper Profile (internal)
Innovative V-Joint overcap
Unique Daiwa reel seat
Fuji Titanium SiC stripper guides
Stainless steel snake single legs
Travel tube with compartments
Original owner lifetime guarantee
Made in Scotland

The NewEra SLR Spey rods will be popular!
Embracing the same breakthroughs with Bias carbon technology as the Trout range of rods the NewEra SLR Salmon fly rods harness incredible casting energy and deliver it with remarkable precision and feel.
The front end is highly responsive allowing the caster to load the blank into a progressive power zone. Choice of timing here can make the rod release further up, delivering a tighter loop, or to add speed to overhead casts. Further down the torque resistance and rigid wall construction of the Bias carbon is where the NewEra SLR Spey rod really begins to deliver, serving up a variety of important benefits, ensuring higher power conversion and controlled unloading, it allows for positive line lift and propels each cast with remarkable accuracy. Accomplished design in a double hander that truly does excel with versatility.

Daiwa NewEra Salmon Fly Rod Features:
Bias carbon technology combined with HVF (High Volume Fibre)
Constant Taper Profile (internal)
Unique Daiwa reel seat
Strengthened Fuji SiC stripper guides
Stainless steel snakes
High grade cork handle
Hook keeper
Travel tube with compartments
Original owner lifetime guarantee

The New Orvis Helios 2 - The Second Coming!

Coming soon to GAC, the new Orvis Helios 2 rods are the biggest thing to come from Orvis since, well, the Helios! Pre-order yours today and be one of the first lucky anglers in the UK to own a piece of Orvis history!
The Helios 2 is a featherlight war club that defies the laws of physics and has the backbone of an I-beam. Lighter in the hand and 20% stronger than any rod Orvis has ever developed, it transitions energy directly from your brain to the fly and casts with the precision of a laser pointer. Made by hand in the Orvis rod shop in Vermont, it’s a fly rod built by anglers who fish on their way home from work, anglers with sunglasses-shaped tan lines, anglers who tie blood knots in their sleep.

Orvis have made this rod for fishing addicts just like us!

Featuring all-new tapers fine-tuned to transfer energy along a smoother curve, the Helios 2 offers unrivaled tracking, accuracy, and additional lifting power while maintaining tippet protection. Built with a proprietary material integrated into the tip, the Helios 2’s impact strength is 100% stronger, the dampening has increased, and the swing weight has been reduced by 20% from the original, bestselling Helios. Finished with striking midnight blue blanks, accenting wraps, crushproof REC Recoil® guides, REC California buckeye burl freshwater reel seats, REC woven graphite saltwater reel seats, black nickel skeletons, super-grade cork handles, and a UV-inhibiting paint coating, the Helios 2 is the finest fly rod Orvis has ever produced and is sure to receive rave reveiws the world over.

Feed your Orvis Helios addiction here at Glasgow Angling Centre.

An overview of the HERO3: Black Edition - Available end of November!

Smaller, Lighter…Better
Weighing in at a scant 2.6 ounces, the HERO3: Black Edition is 25% lighter and 30% smaller than previous models.

2X Faster Video Performance
The HERO3: Black Edition captures professional, cinema-quality video at 2X the resolution and 2X the frame-rate of previous models while delivering 2X better low light performance. Slow-motion aficionados and industry professionals will love the HERO3: Black Edition’s 1080p-60 frames per second (fps), 720p-120 fps, WVGA-240 fps, 960p-100 fps and 1440p-48 fps video modes while those desiring the highest possible resolutions will appreciate the 2.7KP-30 fps and 4KP-15 fps video modes. 4Kp-15 fps video mode also represents a powerful still image capture mode in that it can be used to capture continuous 8MP+ video stills at a rate of 15 frames per second.

3X Faster Photo Performance
The HERO3: Black Edition’s photo performance is 3X improved, now boasting 12MP burst capture at a staggering 30 frames per second with 2X better low light performance compared to previous models. Still Photo and Time-lapse Photo modes remain the same but are now joined by a new Continuous Photo mode that captures continuous 12MP stills at a steady 3, 5, or 10 photo-per-second rate, up to 30 photos at a time.

Improved Sharpness, Less Distortion
The HERO3′s reduced-distortion, 6-element aspherical lens combines with user-selectable Ultra-wide, Medium and Narrow field-of-views to deliver more perspective-capture options than ever before. Add the totally updated flat-lens waterproof housing that delivers stunning image sharpness both above and below water and you’ve got one of the most powerful and durable image capture solutions on the planet.

Redesigned Audio System
Understanding that sound quality is as important as image quality, GoPro engineers completely redesigned the HERO3 to be as adept at capturing the subtle, natural sounds of voice and music as it is at capturing the immersive sounds of sport. Also improved is GoPro’s already famous wind-noise reduction, ensuring that you’ll hear more of your passion, be it your engine or expletives, and less of the wind during high-speed activities.

Built-in Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Remote Included
The HERO3: Black Edition features built-in Wi-Fi and includes GoPro’s Wi-Fi Remote accessory. The Wi-Fi Remote is normally available as a £79.99 accessory but is included with the HERO3: Black Edition. The Wi-Fi Remote is waterproof, wearable and can control up to 50 Wi-Fi-enabled GoPros at a time from a range of 600′. The HERO3′s built in Wi-Fi means it can also be controlled by iOS smartphones and tablets running the GoPro App. The GoPro App enables full camera control and live scene preview on any compatible iOS smartphone or tablet with support for Android smartphones and tablets coming Winter 2012.
